Tap debounce issue on Lenovo tablet
« on: August 14, 2018, 12:37:01 am »
I have a Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Plus, which is a great tablet, especially for the money, but I am having a really really really annoying problem where light touches will trigger multiple inputs at one time, sort of like a button without debounce.

What will happen is any light touch, as in just the tip of my finger, will send up to around 35 inputs every second (I know this because while this is good for cheating at games where you need to tap a lot, it's not all so good for trying to hit the back button on Chrome without going back 3-4 pages).

This tablet is not rooted (and I would appreciate to keep it as such, outside of a sure fire no way to fix this besides doing that) and runs pretty much stock Android 7. Despite me not being able to even look this issue up without getting completely irrelevant and useless answers (which surprises the heck out of me, unless I am singularly the only person who has ever had this problem) I did find a suggestion somewhere to increase (or perhaps it was decrease, I tried both) a slider called "Pointer Speed" in the Languages & Input settings menu. Altering had no noticeable effect, and I am still able to do this.

Any ideas? I've never had tablets do something like this, and this isn't just occasional, it's reproducible upon desire, and an intense annoyance. Thanks for any help.
I forget who I am sometimes, but then I remember that it's probably not worth remembering.

Was it like that since you got it, or did it start happening afterwards? It could be a manufacturing defect. In that case use the warranty.

Otherwise, definitely root it. You can't diagnose the hardware if you can barely do anything with the software.

This has always happened to my knowledge, but it took a little while to understand proper what was going on.

While I could manage to root the device if absolutely necessary, I have no clue what to do after that point. I have very little experience on the inner workings of Android Linux, and definitely not enough to fix this.

I get that on my old Lenovo Thinkpad T400 mousepad.
It often launches two instances of a program instead of one, which would take two double clicks.

lenovo stuff usually has 1st release firmware complete with the bugs.

you say it's android 7 - probably 7.0
you really want 7.1

every primary android release is followed by an updated version with fixes for bugs only discovered after initial release.

It released with 6.0, this is the upgraded version (to 7.0).

hen they are idiots or are led by marketing scum.

they should ignore x.0 releases and provide x.1.x releases.
trust me, the people actually compiling the stuff know this.

if you can install TWRP recovery for this device then you can install custom firmware.
and that will be 7.1.2 or 8.x at this time.

Actually checking now, It's 7.1.1 (don't know why I said 7.0 to be precise), but this issue also occurred on Android 6, making me think it's likely not that.
Installing TWRP, unlocking the bootloader, or gaining root access I want to consider to be a last resort when and if I know that is precisely what I need to
make the device work, as even though I haven't checked it, it might very well void my warranty, and I'd not like to do that on a possibly defective device.

It's usually pretty easy to "unroot" or just load the original software if you need to revert it.
