Datasheet for old Motorola IC
« on: June 18, 2021, 06:58:48 am »
Hello all, have watched Dave's Youtube channel for years and finally signing up here, but have browsed the forums for a long time too. Just have not done much with electronics in some years now. Not sure if this is the correct sub forum for this question.

Question, can anyone point to a datasheet to this IC in question? It is the larger one in the photos designated as U1, I can't seem to find a datasheet for it at all, appears to be a Motorola chip. I did a bit of electronics repair growing up / tinkering, so have looked up tons of datasheets over the years, but can't seem to find anything on this one.

This circuit is out of a basketball score counter / countdown timer, 30 year old cheap arcade style unit. It works as far as I remember, just curious about the chip after pulling the board to clean the unit.

I know it's a slim chance on this, but thought I'd ask. Thank you.

Printed on chip so you don’t have to type it.

I believe 'SC' was Motorola's prefix for 'Special/Custom', i.e. 'house' numbered chips made under exclusive contract for a specific customer.   Your one *may* be a mask-programmed variant of a Motorola microcontroller.

AFAIK, Motorola never publicly released datasheets for 'SC' parts (as they couldn't be sold to any other customer), so unless the original customer published (or leaked) data, you are S.O.L.

Yep, mask programmed microcontroller. No way to know what's in there.

Thank you to everybody that replied, I appreciate it. Just had this apart and was curious as I have been on tons of other items over the years. Again I appreciate the replies.
