DaVinci Resolve video editor
« on: March 19, 2016, 01:15:51 pm »
Hi all,

Dave and myself seem to suffer the same issue (he's made it very clear in a bunch of his vids).........no matter what PC spec, video card etc......video rendering is slow....certainly not able to achieve nothing like the same speeds as others claim, i.e. using the GPU etc.

So, I came across DaVinci Resolve talked about here on Dave Dugdale's channel:-

Free version....worth a try!
https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/uk/products/davinciresolve

Installed it and sad to say it looks like a lemon!
- Audio broken, seems as though it doesn't like .MTS files......there is some talk about converting first.......yeucchhh!
- GPU rendering?......well it detected my hardware on install, but pulling in a 30sec .MTS file and rendering it was still sloooooow.

Oh well!

Ian.

They generally do something wrong, on my macbook, I can barely launch DaVinci, let alone actually editing videos, while FCPx works fine even with 1080p60 clips.

Just like Dave from here you're evaluating performance against a specific codec, while each editing package is using its choice for the native video. I'm surprised it supports codecs other than what blackmagic use as well as it does, as the video says its a windows codec issue holding up the audio import.
