Death Notice - Ultrapurple
« on: March 19, 2022, 02:30:31 pm »
It is with great sadness that I must inform the Forum that member “Ultrapurple” passed away on Friday 18th March after a short period of illness. Ultrapurple’s true name was Giles and I considered him a friend. We met several times in person as he lived not far from my home. As an active member of this forum he will be known by many here. My thoughts are with his Wife and family.

That's sad news. He was local to me: I also live in Bedfordshire.

Perhaps his profile should be change to sadly deceased, or is that too morbid?

Interesting - though 6Mpix is quite a low resolution compared to some work that has been done (*cough* *cough*.)

I had a quick play with the three image stack, reprocessing the three colour images to greyscale and then using them as RGB to make one image.

Sounds like he might have had breathing difficulties in his last post in February,

Well that's sad.

Nice for future references but it does sound a bit morbid.

Picking up Zero999's suggestion: if that were my account, I would be honored if the status were set to something neutral, like "inactive", and some additional info were given in the profile summary. Within the existing framework  "Location: deceased" might work.

First, my thoughts are with the family.  Too many leave too soon.  RIP.

I think location set to deceased is a good idea.  As to additional info, in the USA, obituary is regularly published on the web.  I am not sure about other countries.  In the obituary you have information put out by the deceased's own family so we know the family would not object to the quoting it.  If the person left a "good-bye post" knowing the end is imminent, quoting it or leaving that post up would be good.  If obituary or "good-bye posts" is not available, perhaps one should just say nothing more.  We can each miss the person in our own way -- they will now live in our minds.  RIP...

Come to think of it, does Dave have a plan for this place, when he dies or becomes too ill to run it?

Thoughts to his family and friends.

Perhapsthere could be something equivalent to the amateur radio Silent Key (SK) for EE's who have shuffled off the mortal and physical coil?

Or something along the line of 'moved on to the eternal tinkering shack'. Makes me wonder: how many other forum members with active accounts are no longer with us?

@Fraser: my condolances!
