Wow... $4.6bn seems so cheap for Atmel. I always thought the company was worth a lot more.
Microchip has a $10bn market cap...

Microchip has a $10bn market cap...

Microchip has a much broader portfolio with power and mixed-signal parts.  Atmel has memory and a smattering of other things, but on the whole the size difference isn't too surprising.

Yeah, my bad. I did actually look for whether there is a new thread on this already before posting, but it has showed up only after I have opened mine for some silly reason.

Guys, please move the discussion about Atmel/Dialog to the other forum.
