Not sure, but i think a statute of limitations would apply in regards to this in Australia. Any lawyers out there?

This is actually a really good sign.  Means that all of the rapists, murderers, child molesters and truly mean people have been caught, they can now concentrate on lesser crimes.

Well, if people didn't return the videos they rented, the rental business would fold pretty quickly. The rules were quite strict. Fines would be levied for late returns and proof of ID was required for membership. Those VHS movies were not cheap.
If a warrant had been issued, the sheriff probably had no choice, but to enforce it. It sounds extreme, but that's the way a civil society works. In the end, it was resolved pretty quickly.

Last couple of DVD's I got from Blockbusters were sell through copies, at the end of the rental period for them. the cost of the DVD was the same as renting.........
