DigiKey is getting worse

The only trouble-trouble I've had with Digikey is that they once sent me 5 of a thing when it was supposed to be 10. I emailed them and the remainder were in the mail the next day.

FWIW, while Digi-Key’s primary datasheet links link directly to the manufacturer’s own website, if you click the “HTML datasheet” link in the table of documentation on a product page, you see a rendered copy on Digi-Key’s website, and that page has a link to download the PDF from Digi-Key’s server. Handy when a manufacturer has redone their website and all the external links to it have broken. (I’m talking to you, Molex and TE, among many.)

Once, I ordered two pairs of earplugs, and they sent me two cartons of them (100 or 200 pairs each, I think) instead. 😂 That’s the only quantity error I’ve ever had with them, ever.

Now, they have a lot of items that are out of stock, and many that are non-stock, with insane minimum quantities.

Precisely because Digi-Key is so many people’s go-to vendor, during the ongoing component shortages, they’re frequently the first to run out. That’s not Digi-Key’s fault — they likely lock in their orders a year or two in advance, and there’s absolutely nothing they can do to make the manufacturers resupply them faster, given the extreme shortages at the moment. It boggles the mind that you don’t understand that.

As for minimum quantities: that’s not the case for anything that’s vaguely common. It makes complete sense to not keep in stock items for which there is practically no demand. (And in many cases, an alternative product is available.)

The marketplace BS is the only complaint of yours I agree with. I HATE when stores add marketplace items. If I want a bazaar, that’s what eBay and aliexpress are for. One of the reasons I like using Digi-Key, Mouser, and Farnell is that they all ship to Switzerland for free, with VAT prepaid and customs cleared. That doesn’t apply to marketplace transactions, which means that in addition to shipping costs, they could trigger nasty surprise customs bills (since the delivery companies charge juicy “convenience” fees for handling customs clearance), so I absolutely want nothing to do with those.

It’s like you’re blaming Digi-Key for being affected by the pandemic, while ignoring that the pandemic even exists. Ludicrous.

Your ad hominem attack detector might have a small issue with threshold setting. I just found it funny you stumbled onto something I have always found normal and did not care because just googling the datasheet takes a few seconds; a small convenience problem. Instead, I find it very problematic that Digikey site just gives random error messages (including 404's and others), gives partially blank pages randomly, and randomly loses my VAT ID so that I can't actually buy from them anymore because I don't know if VAT ID disappears this time or not, and this is actually important for my bookkeeping. The whole site is just so buggy after all the "improvements". Plus the whole "marketplace" farce. They have just lost all their credibility; built during decades, lost in matter of ~two years. I need a distributor I can trust, so I'm 95% Mouser now. It was 70% DK 30% Mouser before the changes.
