"The fire safety message here is to never put clothing of any kind in the microwave or an oven to attempt to dry them."

No.  Clearly the message is, "Take them out 30 seconds earlier".   :P

I mean, obviously it does work, since they couldn't very well catch on fire if they were still wet, could they?  ;D

I think you have to argue that with Dorset Fire and Rescue.

Reminds me of that horror news story where an elderly women tried drying her miniature dog in the microwave, as that is what she had always done previously....... but using a conventional electric oven. No surprises....the dog died.

No idea if it is a true story, but the thought sends shivers down my back....imagine the pain of being cooked in a stream of microwave energy !  :o

The following web page classes it as Lore rather than fact BUT it claims acts of cruelty have involved microwaves and live animals.

Now if I caught the little b*st*rd who did that, I would be tempted to expose him to the fury of a magnetron at close range.

I've dried underwear and socks in the microwave... did char the underwear once doing that, so I stopped after that.  No time for laundry when you're studying for your degree!
