Does anyone have any contacts in Chengdu,China?
« on: October 11, 2018, 07:19:38 am »
I have an install coming up in Chengdu - we'll be needing some basic electrical supplies - mains cables, plugs etc. and RS China are being a PITA as my client is not a company based in China so won't take an order for delivery in China.
Does anyone have any knowledge of the area or English-speaking contacts there who could help with sourcing, i.e.  they know the local electrical distributors /markets etc.?
We're _probably_ OK but my client is getting a bit panicky....

if you have chinese contact, i would suggest that you buy everything online. they have online platform called taobao.com which sell almost everything you need.

otherwise, AFAIK RS do accept order from individuals as long as their delivery address is within china. around 10 years ago i bought some transformer from them delivered to my apartment (back when i was a student )

if you do not have contact in china, and do not mind pay small fee for a translator and company, you could try googling for a china freelancer specialized for this kind of work.

I did suggest Taobao but I don't want to end up with a reel of the same mains cable they use for dodgy mains leads I've seen on cheap Chinese products!
The problem is my client is in Hong Kong, the install team are based in Shanghai so don't know local suppliers. I'm sure we'll figure it out when we all get  there..
The other issue with RS is they're saying 2 weeks shipping time on everything, which will be too late
