One reason I'm leaving US. Many of my research fall within ITAR, and for my own good, I better do that in China if I want a broader market.

Probably a good decision, seeing the direction toward which the U.S. appears to be headed...

The only direction that the US seems to be headed is toward stopping illegal weapons grade devices from being taken out of the country.  This had nothing to do with research, it was an illegal export of ITAR controlled parts that were made by a third party.

   GOOD bust IMO.

Its a trade-off. Lower pay, and Big Brother WILL be watching your every move, rate you, and reward/punish you accordingly. So you will need to behave as the Communist Party instructs you. But its not all bad... electronics will be cheap and plentiful; and somethings won't be too different, like you would be going from one country without a real justice system to another country without a real justice system.

The most important factor to consider is this: Can you access the EEVBLOG from China?

Reminds me back in the 80s, I think when a couple software engineers took the source code home for a project they were working on at TI (I think it was for speech recognition).   They separated from the company (I think TI let them go).   TI then has a warrant issued for each persons home.  They then did a search of their homes and located the stolen files.   I remember the two saying that they stole it because they thought it was interesting or some other bogus  point and they saw no harm in taking it home.    The story didn't hold up in court and I think they pretty much ruined their careers. Then again, at some point the memory starts to fade.

Google comes through!! You can't hide from the internet.  Fuck up and you are recorded for life.

Accidental ITAR violations have happened ... but this hardly seems what's at issue here.

AFAICS he tried to get samples for reverse engineering out of the country and he got caught. In other words, a spy.

No doubt a good bust.  10 years in prison is not enough for this kind of stuff.
"Direction" comment was in reference to something else but it will get too political so no additional comments.
