EasyPIC4 value?
« on: December 17, 2013, 06:32:05 pm »
I have a complete EasyPIC4 dev board with all of the accessories etc.  I've only found one other one on Ebay that didn't include the lcd screens and they were asking around $90 for it.  Mine is 100% complete and I have quite a few extra PIC's that came with it though the box it came in is a little rough (better than theirs I might add).  I was wondering if it would be worth trading/selling or if it's more of a collectors item nowadays?  I'm desperate for an oscope lately and figure if I can get good coin for it I might be able to search out something on Ebay later on to fulfill my wants.

I have a couple of easypic4's, they are still applicable to use, the latest ide's from mikroelectronica still support them.

They are well featured but never seemed to gain a big following.

Personally, if there is a chance you might need it in the future hang onto it because it might be useful. Else do a nice detailed listing for it and see how it goes on ebay.

Its worth pointing out that you can flash standard hex files using the easypic board without mikroC or mikroBasic so its not like its useless without a licence for their compiler.

If they are selling for $90 i might be tempted to sell one of mine!

They might be asking $90, but did they sell any? Did you find any completed listings?

I did a search multiple categories both pending and completed and this is the only one I could find of the EasyPIC4.  Either people hang on to these forever or they just don't sell well.  I really don't consider Ebay a good metric on used equipment prices either.  Consider the jump in Power Designs power supplies after the big thread here, the prices on those went through the roof after that.

That listing is the only one I found that was as close to the complete kit and it doesn't have both of the lcd modules with it, mine does.  A power brick never came with the kit, it was something you had to get seperately and I never bothered because it works fine off of usb.  I have both cables that were included in the kit plus the cd and the relevant paperwork and a printed copy of the 16f877 datasheet in a binder.  I also have various other chips that came with it and 2 16f887 chips I got from Microchip in addition to the 16f877a that was already onboard.  That's just to give you an idea of how complete what I have is versus what I've seen out there.  I don't like Ebay for the most part because, like everything, it's turned into something other than what it used to be.  I've been a member there since '96 and only show a date of "Member since: Sep 20, 2000" because I consolidated another account under my nick on that date.  I have watched it evolve is my point and would rather not deal with it if it can be helped.  I suppose I should just list it here and see if anyone is interested in trading something.  I don't care for the system because I use Linux and have determined that I'm not dual booting just for this.  Plus I'm mostly an analog guy but I do have an uno.

there are some completed auction listings on ebay.co.uk.

easypic5, £62 18 bids
easypic6, £97 20 bids & £70 6 bids

i would list it on ebay with good pics and description, if it sells then great... if not then keep it

I set it up for trade here.  Like I said, I don't care for Ebay all that much and despise paypal.  I figure maybe someone might have an old analog scope they might want to get rid of perhaps and trading on Ebay isn't going to work very well.  If worse comes to worse, I may eventually have no choice but I'd rather put it off as long as possible if it can't be avoided.

problem with the for sale / want section here is new threads disappear off onto page two very quickly!

My thought was actually finding someone willing to trade would be the difficult part.  It seems that folks like us like to keep our doodads and reluctantly part with them if any perceived use can be imagined.  In this instance, I see no percieved use for this for myself but others might have a need for one.  I've had this thing for a few years and find that microcontrollers just aren't something that peaks my interest all that much.  I can keep the thread bumped to the first page as long as I still have it and it's not against the rules I suppose.
