Ordering from Mouser, UK. Questions.
« on: January 28, 2017, 01:28:28 am »
Just a few quick questions about peoples experience with mouser, ordering from the UK.  I'm after a few of those Lattice MachXO3 boards - £20 for a pretty decent basic FPGA/CPLD board. But I can only find them at mouser.

What is the shipping cost and shipping time to the UK?  The website mentions 'no minimum order', but I suspect shipping will have a fee if under a certain amount. Their website isn't particularly clear on this (or I'm just blind).  I won't be ordering a lot, probably between £30-60, but don't want to get stung by shipping fee's if shipping is free over say £70.

Just follow the checkout process and the shipping costs will be clear before you commit to buying.

Digikey seem to sell them, and the postage is free if your order is >£33.
Also they charge the tax/VAT/duties on checkout, so you won't be hassled by the delivery company and/or the delivery companies extra brokerage fees.

don't know if it's the same there but..
if you choose the standard fedex delivery they will deal with customs for you and you don't have to pay import duties. same (or following) day processing and shipping. 2-5 working days delivery

Mouser have free shipping to UK for orders over £33. Delivery is usually 2 days, never more than 3 IME

I ordered some stuff from Mouser on Tuesday. It arrived Thursday, no problem. Mouser indicated expected delivery date of Friday but it arrived on the Thursday. I have always found their delivery to be really good and if you have a VAT number they handle the VAT so no import duties or admin charges from the courier. They have it all sorted out.

I knew Digikey had the £33 (> gets free delivery) arrangement (It use to be £50 (> gets free delivery) for a long while, if I remember correctly), but did not realise Mouser did it as well. I guess it was competition and one started the trend and the other(s), copied it. Digikey also seem to deliver quickly as well.

Sorry my original answer missed it, but I did not know Mouser had the same policy.

I find it a real pain, when the delivery company charges extra brokerage fees and hassles me for extra fees. With foreign parcels, so I really like it when the electronics supplier handles it for me.

Well that sounds just dandy.  £33 is easily done (some parts from mouser are cheaper than Farnell anyway), I was just curious about import duty and any extra charges like you get with PCBway - not complaining about that, it still works out very cheap for PCBs.  Should prove useful as I'm increasingly finding parts out of stock at Farnell!

Cheers people

I've placed one or two orders with them (VAT-free, via my business), and reading the included paperwork, it turns out they have some sort of "branch" in France via which my stuff came. That's how and why i could get the stuff VAT-free, AND no dealing with customs  :-+

Although if you give them your VAT number they will not charge you the VAT it is my understanding that you still have account for it using 'Reverse charge' VAT. Because my company is registered for the flat rate scheme it means I still end up paying the VAT.
