Ebay Global Shipping Program EOL, being replaced by Ebay International Shipping

<< < (11/12) > >>

factory:
Looking at an listing of TE in the US with EIS shipping, it now has "duties" shown under the shipping cost, but a listing for a TE manual doesn't have this shown (0% rate), instead states "This item may be subject to duties and taxes upon delivery."  |O
Struggling to find an active US listing that still has GSP, most have transitioned over the EIS, or removed international completely. Sellers everywhere have always hated dealing with international shipping themselves and prefer to use GSP/EIS.

EISD and regular (non ebay) shipping listings, don't show anything on the main listing page, unless you look at the shipping tab. "VAT may apply. The actual VAT requirements and rates may vary depending on the final sale."

Oddly I'm noticing shipping prices seem a lot more expensive*  :o now they have changed to EIS from GSP, resulting in me clicking the X icon & forgetting about the item.

*the opposite to how they are advertising the EIS service.  :horse:

Today's amusing story in this area is from https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/apr/07/cardiff-flat-owner-gets-tax-bills-for-11000-chinese-firms

The TL;DR is

--- Quote ---However, few will have experienced the same horror as Dylan Davies, who received 11,000 tax bills – with none actually for him. On one day, 580 envelopes flooded in, as Chinese companies had used his Cardiff flat address to register themselves with HMRC to pay VAT.
...
A law change in January 2021 meant online marketplaces such as Amazon or eBay have to collect VAT from overseas traders themselves and pay it directly to HMRC. However, this does not apply if a company has a registered UK address for VAT. No proof of address has to be provided.

The financial crime consultant Graham Barrow said he suspected it was fraudulent activity from the overseas companies. “It looks to all intents and purposes like VAT fraud,” he said. “There’s no other reason why you’d register for VAT at a complete stranger’s address, particularly for 11,000 companies to do that.”

Barrow believes the firms are collecting VAT from their buyers but not paying it to HMRC.

I'm not convinced fleabay sellers are actually collecting VAT; I suspect they are still quoting the same price and ignoring taxes.

Erm ePay collect it, not the sellers....

A couple of pictures showing parts of an ebay tax invoice, for an order of TE related parts.

I would be less unhappy if I could clearly see the cause of the higher prices, e.g. transport, or red tape, or taxes, etc.

I would be less unhappy if I could clearly see what is included/excluded from the indicated "total" price.

OK.

Does fleabay then give it to the sellers in the expectation they will give it to HMRC?

What happens if a parcel is delivered with a £20+ invoice for VAT and admin? Who do I take to court to get a refund?
