eBay insanity examples
« on: June 15, 2021, 01:03:20 am »
I keep seeing occasional prices that I think are astonishing.  Maybe I just don't know something.  How much does a Fluke 732-series reference go for new?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/265071401035?hash=item3db77c984b%3Ag%3AX0AAAOSwVJBgPDRt&nma=true&si=UcguXpLCSPBdpygcCGCKO5PSwdE%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Anyone else seeing over-the-top pricing?

Are you saying it didn't sell?  I found it on a search of sold listings when I was looking for something else.

bdunham7,

For some reason, your link doesn't show the fact that, yes, it sold.  However, if you use this link:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/265071401035 , you can see that it did sell.  And, if you search for completed listings that match < fluke 732b >, you see the listing with the price shown in green which means it sold.

I'm really starting to hate ebay ......  :-- :palm:

As for why anyone would pay such a price for a unit that has no history and no calibration, that's beyond me.

I know of a seller who when they have one item left in stock they price it at something like £999.99 or so.

Seems to be a strange to me but there must be some reason for the seller to do this.

If all of an item are sold the listing ends. The sales history (xxx items sold) goes away. Also, unless it has changed recently, normal sellers cannot just suspend sales if they go on vacation or something. So they just change the price to something ridiculous while they are away.

Will it still say "Sold" if the buyer changes their mind and cancels out? I don't know.

I had some $5 items (Buy it Now) listed that I didn't want to bother with any more, but the listing had many years of sales history so I increased the price to $1005 just to keep it active. A couple of months later somebody bought two of them anyway. Of course the sale ended up getting canceled.

I suspect they no longer do that in such an obvious way because law enforcement now has automated monitoring.

According to this thread they are $8,500 new: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/metrology/the-current-cost-of-chasing-ppm_s-(fluke-732b-price-list)/

Does Fluke not sell them any more?
Maybe there is some export limitation on them and the person is getting around that?

Well that's not likely to sell. Maybe it's a strategy to lure people to their store? People seeing that price think "WTF?" and go look at the seller's other items. Then see something they like, for a sensible price.

That seller certainly has big balls.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/143959291755   >:D
