Title: eBay sluggish on Chrome
Post by: kaveendra on June 02, 2017, 01:40:01 am
Have you experienced that eBay become sluggish on Chrome recently? In fact, I have noticed this since last february and suffering since then, but eBay haven't yet publically acknowledged nor fixed the issue yet. Strangely, only few seems to be talking about this in any forums, and rest probably getting used to it. Recently, Dave tweeted on this, and eBay responded "So sorry to hear of this. We have reported it to our technical team"!! Cumon technical team, it's since last february  :=\

Ebay home page loads as usual, but consequent searches momentary freezes Chrome until it does its thing in the background. Sometimes this freeze holds for 30 seconds or more, making eBay browsing annoying. If you haven't really noticed, just do few eBay searches and see it shamefully freezes on Chrome for few seconds. during this freeze, you cannot click on any other tabs or do anything on Chrome untill eBay finishes whatever its doing in the background. I have checked on Chrome on Windows only. Not sure how it behaves on Chrome on Mac and Linux.

Interestingly enough, Windows Edge, iOS and Android eBay apps works just fine.

I suspect that it's a problem with ebay advertisements, where they have screwed the Javascript, which freezes Chrome on loading search results. Ideally, the Ajax calls to advertisement feeds should happen gracefully in the background, without running it on the main process. A good programmer would handled such issues out of the main thread/process.

The Solution! glad you asked  Just install an adblocker. I use Chrome AdBlock extension, which works a treat.

If you have a dozen or more eBay tabs open, then it still runs slow. eBay (& Google) dish up all the adds to you, just Adblocker refuses to process & display them.

I found the best way is to run Adblocker Plus on the Opera browser & leave Google Chrome behind altogether. I loved Chrome when it first came out but Google have now served up too much trash to me ........ so I have departed forever.

Also Google track all your browsing history & the NSA hangs off that. Whilst I have nothing to hide, I do feel it is an invasion of privacy. I now also use Duck Duck Go as my search engine.

Contact Ebay and ask them what browser and computer platforms they use to script and view their own site,

so you can surf and bid on stuff without getting ad banners rammed in your face and snail speed performance,

DISCOURAGING the customer from shopping on Ebay ever again.  >:(

I've noticed sluggishness occasionally when I mouseover the image for a zoom in. It can become all choppy. I just restart the browser if that happens, it's rare though. Ebay runs fine for me on Chrome most of the time. I am on a Mac though.
