Title: ebuy7.com legit or not?
Post by: alpher on November 19, 2018, 05:03:46 pm
I'm looking for a specific temperature controller made by DEI in taiwan, used to buy them locally here but the company that had them went out of business.
Online search shows the to be available only on ebuy7.com , supposedly an english version of taobao ?
I'm reluctant to go ahead with the purchase as I've never heard of the site,
anybody has any eperience buying from them ? (ebuy7 that is).

Never heard of them before. ebuy7 looks to be a third party agent so they're acting as middlemen for your transaction. They're not Taobao so if you can't find the original item on Taobao then I'd be dubious about ebuy7 managing to source it. If you search for their number (0086 18680416693) you'll find they're operating two other sites under other names.

The usual risks apply for buying something from a third party agent.

Whois lookup for ebuy7 comes up with a WhoisGuard with a PO Box in Panama, while taobao doesn't hide their ownership of taobao.com.

Pay with a credit card, you can always institute a chargeback.

I am also in the process of looking to buy very rare items from Toabao, and also investigating a few "agents".
As you know, Taobao won't sell outside China, so there are many "forwarding" businesses set up allow us outsiders in :-)
Many are crooked as heck, huge markups, huge delays, sudden extra costs .. all sorts of scams to get more $ out of you. I've had a few attempts already :-)
And don't rely on just feedback to check them out, somehow they are able to remove most the bad stuff. I sometimes catch it just as it is posted, then it's gone.
Some agents are legit, but rarely 100% honest though. IF they have paypal or cc, you are reasonably safe. Just beware that delivery time isn't stretched out
too far, past reclaim period.

Just a short update, the goods  showed up.
It took a month and a half but the stuff is here.  :)

Great news.
From my dealings, it seems most (many?) do eventually go as expected.
The next one I'm dealing with is - Merkandi, another "agent". Except this guy wants 95 Euro to be a member first, which I don't mind (worth the risk) BUT
he also offers 125 Euro deal where he'll give you access to FEEDBACK and any BLACKLISTS !! WTF ????
I don't get why sellers need "agents" ?? I desperately need the item listed, but can not find the owner. siiigh

What swayed me o make the deal was that they accept paypal, scammers seldom do, and even if they seem to, then there's the usual "problems with paypal transaction" and push to use a different method of payment.

LOL. On one series of transaction attempts, for a particular rare item, I had similar from ALL 4-5 "agents". Your bank is off-line ... your bank won't accept
international transfers ... delay after delay ... etc etc .. AND on one occasion, I immediately had a (poor) attempt to get a "refund" from my paypal account ...
something like "you did not honour your "sale", funds are being refunded ... but you made a mistake on your password" ! :-) .. every damn trick attempted.
