Title: EEVBlog forum suggestion
Post by: Ampera on June 09, 2017, 05:14:18 am
I have recently been administrating a Simple Machines Forum, and have found a mobile interface solution that is I think better than the paid option this forum currently uses.

Please note this is a suggestion, I don't know if the admins already know of this.

The solution is in two parts. The first is a custom theme called iOS.MF

This is a minimalistic theme designed to look good on mobile devices, taking the UI style of iOS, but to make it work only on mobile devices, this mod can be used.

This allows one to set a theme to display only on mobile devices.

This solution IMO looks better than what is already installed, and is usable for free.

Changing the theme and hence look and feel of the forum is HUGE thing to do. Everyone hates change.
So the main desktop version won't be changed.
For a mobile specific version I think the existing SMF4Mobile looks and works quite well anyway? What's wrong with it? I think it looks better than the one your are proposing, but of course that's subjective.

It's only for mobile devices? It also costs less than what you use now. If you want an example I can show you the forum I put it on. Any switches to the desktop theme probably isn't the mod, I just didn't install some parts of the site for that theme.

Also it only works when your browser requests a mobile site.

Ignore the content, it's for an unrelated video gaming organization.

SMF4Mobile was a one-off cost, bought and paid for.

I just tried it on my Android chrome phone and it looked decent at first and then broke into the desktop version when going into a category.
It's broken somehow.

So yeah, sorry, I'm not going to install it.
I have had zero reports of any issues with SMF4Mobile.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
