EEVblog LabCam is up and running again
« on: April 02, 2015, 01:29:53 am »
It's back!
Using a Logitech C905 HD Webcam running on Raspberry Pi2 under Raspbian Linux with avconv @ 200kbps to ConnectCastTV
http://connectcast.tv/eevblog

Still need to play with a few things, and location (probably roof above where it is now).
Also tried a better C920 full HD 1920x1080 webcam, but the depth of field wasn't as big, so didn't look as good.

The buffering and "speed up" nature of the image is (we speculate) due to the shared bus on the RPi2 for the ethernet and USB port.

Anyway, better than the Dropcam IMO. But no public recording or playback feature.

It's working here. It takes about 45 seconds before the video appears. Must have to tunnel through the center of the Earth to get to me.
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

It's just sitting on top of the Makerbot at the moment, so wobbles when Dave2 bumps his desk.

I'm torn between the TV and this video. I suppose until I actually see a biological entity I'll keep watching the feed.
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

I wonder if it is the auto focus causing the image to wobble every few seconds? Even if it is buffering and surging it shouldn't bounce around like someone walked past the camera. Good image quality though, nice neutral colour. I guess the cheaper camera has better depth of field because the lens is smaller, so has a higher f-stop.

Right now it says it's offline. Where'd you go Dave? I wanna see what your doing. :( I mean that in the least creepiest way possible.
I forget who I am sometimes, but then I remember that it's probably not worth remembering.

If you used the RPi camera, would that resolve the ethernet/USB issue?
Are you running the RPi in command line only mode without Xwindows GUI? Less RAM and CPU usage by non video threads.

Yep, GUI not installed.

You need a blinky light or large digital clock to show movement when the joint is empty. A white board for messages and joke of the day.

How many Dave's are there in Australia?

Not that many Daves, many Davos (pronounced "Dave-oh") though.

Image quality is very good but slow ~2fps. It's the first time I see a live person in the lab so it works better in this respect.  Dave #2 can supplement his income by selling advertising space on his T-shirt. Having a few cats there will also enhance the scene.

The image appears after 2 seconds here. The quality is good and the framerate must be 2fps.

I see dave2. Are we supposed to report if he isn't working?  :-) :-) :-)
If you try and take a cat apart to see how it works, the first thing you have on your hands is a nonworking cat.

Sir, you say YOU are being stalked?  Don't you realize we have more important things to do like issue traffic citations?
