"Coconut" + fusion thermo nuclear = yummy soup
« on: February 14, 2013, 05:27:13 am »
Although not as popular as LHC (Large Hadron Collider) project, personally I do follow enthusiastically the ITER project since the beginning.
For those who don't know what "ITER" is (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) -> http://www.iter.org/faq

Its quite amazing that simple thing as a "coconut" plays a big role in fusion thermonuclear chamber.  :-+

The most efficient coating material for the cryopanels that keep the vacuum in the ITER Tokamak clean: coconut-shell charcoal.

  • Why shouldn't we question everything?
    • It's not really a Blog

Well that was frustrating. WHY is charcoal beneficial as a cryo-panel coating, and why is coconut shell charcoal (from 2002 no less) the best kind?

Not to go into the deeper issues of the viability of a fusion machine topology in which there's a fundamental no-win engineering problem - which should be closer to the plasma, the shielding water-heating layer, or the superconductor coils?

Plus the other little problem - the (non)availability of He3.

Though I don't have any clue about this thing, but why not ?  ???

Any scientifically proven reasons why you're so frustrated that this coconut is not the best or the right coating material for the "thermonuclear" grade plasma soup chamber ?
