Electronics markets in HK and Manila
« on: November 24, 2012, 06:04:04 pm »
I'm going to Hong Kong and Manila in january/february and I'm looking for some interesting things to do.

Are there any good electronics markets, places to buy/look at test equipment/components in either of these places? I guess there must be some in HK, but I don't know where.. Not so sure about Manila.

Others interesting things to see/do in either place?

go to SEG in Shenzhen, it's an hour away from HK. you may need a visa though.

yeah, if you get a shopping tour of mainland you get a visa easily, and then you just stray from the tour.

In Hong Kong, go to Apliu street in Sham Shui Po. Look for WELC. All the good stuff is on the first floor. A bit expensive, but you will find most of what you're looking for there.

If you do go over to shenzhen, there's numerous buildings to look for, SEG Market being one of the most prominent but there's one that isn't packed with people over at a train stop known as "Lingzhi" Which is actually Bao'an in Shenzhen
Over one of the exits there's a nice hotel and to the left there's a nondescript building which is actually a "electronics tower"

I didn't plan on going to Shenzhen because I need a visa which is complicated, mostly because I need to go in person to the Chinese embassy which is not close to where I live.

I'v been googling it now and it looks like it's possible to get a 5 day visa on the border. Does anyone have experience with this?
