Mouser crazy shipping costs

I'm just curious if anyone else experienced crazy shipping costs from Mouser this week.

I placed an order for a few small parts, less than 1 kg total, and the shipping cost was over $30, for UPS ground in the same metropolitan area.  Normally the cost is $7.99 for anything up to a couple of kg.  Reducing qty of some small plastic items by 1 shaved off a $1-$2 depending on the item.  Removing all the small parts and leaving only a small programmer resulted in the expected $7.99 charge, and adding a second (different) programmer raised shipping less than $1.

I called Mouser, and the sales guy found the same numbers.  He told me Mouser just switched to a weight-based shipping calculation a few days ago. He fixed the charge based on my estimate of the weight, and said he'd send the issue on for analysis.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Not with Mouser, but I run logistics for an e-commerce company and these type of bugs are often traceable to bad or missing product catalog data, especially if no one ever used the weight field for something. Maybe someone entered 1 (intending grams) into a field labelled kilograms. Maybe the weight is missing and they have it programmed to assume a default weight that's too high.

Complaining is the right (and probably only) thing to do.

Yeah, something in your order must have the weight entered incorrectly in their system or some similar problem. I think a $30 charge for ground in the same zone would probably have to be somewhere over 50 lbs.

Clearly a regional deal that doesn't apply to US buyers.

Just to check, I put $200 (=170 euro) of in-stock resistors in the mouser cart and shipping was still $7.99
