Electronics shop in The Netherlands

Hello all,

I recently moved to the Netherlands for a while and am looking for a walk-in electronics hobby shop. In Australia I'm used to Jaycar or Altronics for all my stuff, but I can't find anything here. Searching for "Electronics shops" gives me shops that sell iphones and TVs. I know there are online stores, but I want small quantities and cut-lengths of cable.

Any Dutch people here?

Most (say 99.9%) of the electronics shop have dissapeared in the NL. The ones remaining must be fronts for money laundring because I don't see how they can turn a profit Maybe you can still find a shop in a larger city but your best bet is to order online. Where are you living?

Look on: geizhals.de this website shoes stores in Germany/ Europe who offer you the cheapest price you ever get.
The products are under my price i could get as an dealer.

Utrecht and don't mind travelling far. I'll have a look at that site posted above.

I'm from utrecht, in the center of town there is a pretty decent shop called Radio Centrum.
They have most of the common parts, wire by the meter and so on.  And the personnel know quite a bit about electronics too.

I go there all the time when a need a few passives, wire, relay and so on. Don't expect a big collection of modern ic's. But they will order them for you.

Looks like Amersfoort has some.

But, for webshops you should know:
conrad.nl (large german store, ships to Netherlands in ~3 days)
Elektronica Onderdelen Online (eoo-bv.nl).
sinuss.nl (element14 for individuals)
smdshop.nl
eijlander.nl (store in Ede)

They also run a webshop. But, as Afuture has recently proved, it can be over quickly.

I was searching for a Ultrasonic Cleaner. On the German Conrad Website ~200€ on the Austria Website ~400€ for the same Product.

Conrad has the worst possible website, and worst possible price point. But they do deliver to individuals which farnell, rs, digikey and mouser do not.

In general you are right but there are lots of exceptions, they have things others do not have and sometimes much lower priced.
It all depends what you are looking for, comparing the different sites before ordering is worthwhile.
It is the same with tme.eu , they have better prices than Farnell but less brands and a lot of 2nd quality brands.

I also do this but lately I am getting more and more crap and counterfeit garbage. Last week I received many hundres of Dupont cables with connectors much cheaper than any site in Europe.
However, checking with a magnet they were not pure copper or clad but steel with a tiny copper on top. The resistance is 5 times higher than a copper wire from Conrad, it does not bend well which makes me wonder how fast it will fail due to metal fatigue or rust. It is not nice to find a fail in a rainbow dupont cable where visibly nothing is wrong but internal the wire is oxydized, brittle or broken.
I did not even know that crap existed (metal wire) and makes me think twice before ordering ever again.

I got many RF Adapter from China the have the same Quality than Conrad.

Digikey and Mouser do not deliver to individuals? Since when? The only limitation is that they do not ship some stuff (chemicals, test equipment brands like Fluke) overseas, and that their threshold for free shipping is a bit higher. And as already stated, there are options (both the official Sinuss and Muxtronics) for individuals to order from E14 for some extra money.

For online shops there is also Reichelt.de who offer reasonably low shipping costs and a fairly large selection.

Are you sure that's right? Perhaps it's a Dutch thing, I don't know, but Farnell and RS have been falling over themselves to have a piece of the tinkerer market in recent years.

Digikey I had no problems with just my personal cc , I ordered and two hours later someone from the USA called me because they wanted to know my second first name for the billing and verify the order (1st order so I guess a first time checkup). Three days later it arrived by courier from the USA, I was astounded because that must have cost $$$.

With Farnell you can only order if the order is >€50 then you have to pay through banktransfer in advance before they handle the order. Then shipping is mostly next day.

Farnell and RS only sell a small section of their catalog regarding raspberry pi stuff.
Digikey makes a call, and when they're not convinced you're a company they cancel the order.
Farnell stopped that service unfortunately.

Possibly because consumer protection is insane here.

Called them a few months ago, the forms was missing on the website, they said I had to go to sinuss.nl.
Maybe it has changed again, I don't know. I now buy parts through work.

I order form Mouser all the time, never had a problem. Private credit card, private address.

Delivery is usually faster than from german or UK distributers who are just around the corner. Go figure.

 Because you have ordered before at Farnell you have an account number.
I was told not to sent an email with the order anymore but just login and order online then specify to pay in front as private person and they handle it.
But since a colleague of mine has his own firm and can order anything withou limit so also lower amounts I order with him.
The company unfortunately does not allow to order private orders, understandable.

Looking at that sinus website it could well be that this is their new way of dealing with private customers. That is a shame since sinuss adds €1 per pieces for ics it looks like.
Alternative would be to get your own KvK number, so your own firm, you could also buy other non electronics stuff at the Makro, Sligro then  I might think of doing this i am tired of using other businesses or persons. You dont have to make money or have income the first years anyway.

And if you have some time you can try to visit the Baco in IJmuiden, which is a dump store that sells batches of all kinds of surplus stuff. You can have the stuff on their site delivered, but they have more in the shop than advertised on their website, and its a great place to browse. If you're looking for a specific part this might not be the ideal place, but they do have loads of random electronics (and old army supplies, camping gear and clothing).

Here in Austria every resident have a VAT Number.
How about asking the NL Authority for a VAT Number?

Nowadays registering a company is free in the NL and there is no obligation to create an income. BTW don't bother with Makro because they are extremely expensive compared to other (online) stores.

I thought that was only the case if you want to deduct the VAT  (BTW) so yeah if you want your electronic T&A equipment and components tax free you have to have an revenue and income.
Otherwise if you are a starter without positive income, it is what it is.

There is also a guy in NL running a service/website where people can order on Farnell.

The problem with these physical shops is that you pay a huge amount more fore some standard components. Like some a few euro for a simple capacitor.
