Element14 lead times not to be trusted
« on: March 23, 2022, 10:39:06 pm »
I've found e14 to be unreliable a few other times, so I order most things through Mouser and Digikey now.

But recently I needed a 38999 series connector asap, saw e14 had them in stock for next day delivery so placed an order. After two days it hadn't arrived so I contacted them, turns out it it won't be in stock until April 14th.

What annoys me the most is they acknowledged the website was wrong over a week ago and it still hasn't been updated.    >:(

I've mostly found them to be reliable, and I'd understand if they went to the shelf and it was empty, but to still be showing them as in stock next day would annoy me too

I've had faultless very prompt service from https://mil-spec.com.au/ if you're still in need of that part

Thanks, I don't know that one, will check them out.

Digikey cancelled one of my orders without asking recently so I guess no distributor is perfect.  ;)

Just an update, the connector did arrive on the 14th April (to the day).

But the website still lists the part as next day delivery...

Maybe some disruption at the AU warehouse meaning orders get delayed?

Seems like it's from supplier stock:

"As per your query, we deeply regret to inform you that the website is incorrectly updated. We have raised a ticket for this to be rectified. Please do note this part is currently on supplier lead time and the ETA is by April 15, 2022."

Yes even E14 next day delivery and in AUst Stock is all a "lie".  I deliberately did an order that had all "Australian in stock parts"....yeah right.....should have ordered from Digikey.   Most parts came from EU and USA.   No I applaud them for not adding extra postage costs but I just knew it was going to turn out like this (again).

Really peeved this is happening.   Sure I know of "Chipageddon" and parts shortages.....but its become ridiculous.   Really want to support in Australia...but if I can get it cheaper and quicker from digikey.....without the "Stock deception".....then!
I'd forget my Head if it wasn't screwed on!

"Next day delivery" seems to be true from the date that they ship the items, at least metro-to-metro delivery is overnight.

However, from the time you place the order they usually take around 1-1.5 weeks to process the order.

My experience with regards to delivery times from E14, RS Components, Mouser and dDigikey:

- E14 & RS Components -  if local stock is available in Australia I have always received the parts next business day. If the stock is available but not in Australia I have learned that it could be from the advertised 5-7 business days, but it can easily stretch to 3-6 weeks.

- Mouser - Available stock normally comes in 3 days, but sometimes gets delayed for some reason to 4-6 days, not often tho. Good think is that packages also arrive Saturday and Sunday sometimes.

- Digikey - this is the winner for me with regards to delivery times, 2-3 days sharp and have never missed so far. Also in recent times I have started to receive the goods over the weekend as from Mouser.

I've also found Digikey and Mouser to be very reliable, shipping delays I've had are normally due to customs.

Digikey did recently cancel my whole order when I asked for only one part to be canceled. It was annoying because the parts were re-allocated to another customer so I was placed on back order again. But I've already placed 23 orders with Digikey this year so some mistakes are bound to happen.  :(

Element14's Australian warehouse is a shonky second rate operation compared to the overseas warehouses. At one point they were so bad that I would only order items that weren't stocked in the Australian warehouse. Not only being slow but having incorrectly sorted parts in their warehouse - one time I received RCA plugs instead of SOIC opamps and another time DIP8 opamps instead of TO220 transistors. The latter not just once but TWICE after I pointed out they sent me the wrong thing the first time and they promptly shipped me DIP8 opamps again. After the second complaint they conceded that their 30000+ stock of a particular TO220 transistor had gone missing and refunded me - not sure if they actually looked or if the sales drone just figured refunding me would be easier than having to deal with the warehouse staff. I ordered a different line listed as being stocked in the UK warehouse and the correct transistors showed up. On the bright side I now have a lifetime supply of RCA plugs and DIP opamps...

They have got better over the past couple of years and I still use them because they gave me a corporate account (free next day Toll shipping on a 1c resistor) but I still order from Digikey/Mouser if I NEED the parts to arrive same week.
