I have received dreams of apocalypse, the end is near. :blah: :blah: :blah:
I need the best books about the basic essence of power generation, their components, potential sources of easily retrofitted generators, batteries. Untortunately, quantum energy wont be provided, yet, further research will be needed.
Same for Radio equipment.
The best books, the best tips.

did you receive revelation?
1) if you see middle east filled with green trees and grasses, you'll know the end is near.
2) if you see 3rd world war with another nuclear (WMD) explosion, with another super massive death toll, you'll know the end is near. this event will also bring down any technological advancement we've developed with it until we have to fight with sword and possibly stones again.
3) if you see certain places go dried badly with no water and foods by some "magical" power of certain individual, you'll know the end is near. there is no good electricity when you dont have water.
4) if you see human act like animals on the street as common practice, you'll know the end is near.
5) there are many more i cant explain it in simple words here...
the way i see it... if you happen to be in those bad places when the time comes. you'll need either... water generator out of thin air, and if you really need electricity, you better start collecting solar panels and the necessary components... but in my "dream" (maybe more precisely... "prediction") i dont think your area will be affected that bad, unless you care about humanity and the poor and become the resistance in the name of justice (given if you really have the guts of going hungry and getting death threat). ymmv. cheers.
ps: and no, alien will never come, and we cant ever reach another gordilock planets to get rid of dying sun, nor find another life on another planet. we wont get hit by big commet or super massive waves or such nonsense that you saw in movies etc. and my crystal ball tells me, we wont be around too, when the time comes. i'm sorry if you got dissapointed by this news.

Buy a reel of 2n3904/2n2222 in through-hole package :).
I happen to have hundreds of BC549. I needed only four of them, but rs-online was selling only ammo packs of 200 or so parts. Luckly they were cheap, but I'm not sure what to do with them. Nowadays they just collect dust :/ .

I just recently changed the water in my 55l drinking water reserve; another 300l rain water can be used for washing and flushing the toilet
also I'm going to stock up another 20kg of potatoes next week;
I do keep my solar battery charged in winter by mains to have some iron reserve of electrons driving whatever I consider useful in the end-time.
I do have 2 10,5l propane/butane tanks and 20l gasoline on stock
my guess is, if all these things will be needed one day, I have bigger problems than my stock of power/rf components, which is already now far too big

If you need to recreate technology, the old books like Audel's are good. Start by assembling a good library, with coverage of physics, chemistry, electronics, metrology, survival and medicine. Be sure to have an old copy of Henley's 20th Century Book of Recipes Formulas and Processes. http://science-notebook.com/henley/henley-main.html (http://science-notebook.com/henley/henley-main.html) Get some books on servicing and rewinding motors. You need math and surveying. You need to know how to build machine tools from scratch and foot power them. All this stuff isn't to be used directly, but is to educate yourself so you can come up with suitable solutions to the problems you actually have under some unknown circumstance. Whatever you think is going to happen, it's almost certainly going to be something else you didn't fully anticipate.

Well if that is the case why worry about electronics???? Seriously if the end is here you would be better off to have stocked up on ammo, food and clothing. Interestingly as a society we have regressed significantly in how prepared we are to handle an emergency. I can remember growing up all the local homes had a significant food store in their cellars. This due to canning the summers production to feed the family through the winter. That was mainstream, The Mormons I knew growing up took food stores even more seriously. These days the few that even bother with a garden do it half assed and don't bother to preserve anything.

200 would last me a long time, but I probably have gone through 30 or 40 2N3904's over the last 6-7 years. It's one of my go-to parts when I just need something quick to control a relay or some LEDs or something.

Prepping is a real thing. As far a power generation goes, think about torches and how to power them. If you are buying a torch for use in a disaster situation, get a alum one as big as you can get, as thick as your arm preferably. You want something that will stay light while you create a lump on the head of a intruding foe or indeed a surprise zombie.

Just accept that in just about any TEOTWAWKI situation that rapidly takes down infrastructure and distribution networks, your chance of long-term survival in a dense urban or large suburban area is minimal as you will be competing with tens or hundreds of thousands of others for scarce resources and a small but significant proportion of the population will have no qualms treating you as a walking resource.
The rule of three (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_threes_(survival)) applies, so worst case, any event that doesn't take out more than 99% of the local population without depleting resources, a week later could result in you getting killed for a two litre bottle of soda!
Unless you've got the resources to stock multiple redundant concealed secure caches on a walkable bugout route, your chances of even 'getting out of Dodge' to a survivable location are minimal. If you've got such a location, its probably already off-grid, so most of this thread becomes moot.

In case one wondered what ~200 bjts look like, here you go. Actually, not that big. Suffix "16", afaik, means that transistors were binned for higher beta. Since I'm now using mostly smd parts, and I tend to use 2n3904/2n3906, I think I have a life supply of bc549.
Trap for young players: if I remember correctly, they have pinout of a mirrored 2n3904. I got trapped by that, took me a while to understand why circuit didn't work.

You can use your teeth as the high impedance speaker, possibly.
On the subject of underpants, for power, you might be able to run the radio from a urine to energy generator. So be sure to have a receptacle that you don't drink from. As they say in arizona, prep, pray and prep again.

If you are serious about prepping, get the book Dare To Prepare by Holly Dennan Deyo. I have the 6th Edition 2018. It is actually a very good book, well written and well thought out.
