Enpirion Buck converters Replacements
« on: January 05, 2023, 10:11:14 pm »
Hello Everyone,

I am quite new here. I wanted to know if there are any replacement for buck converters (regulators) by Enpirion (owned by Intel) as they went obsolete a while ago.  I did find this link on MPS, has anyone tried them. I need something that is of pretty much same size and functionality. Are there any other IC manufacturers I can look into?

https://www.monolithicpower.com/en/design-tools/reference-design-partners/power-replacements-for-intel-enpirion.html

Thanks

Analog (Linear) and TI both have large and growing ranges of integrated switchers

MPS has some really good and reliable products, so you can probably stick to them if they have exactly what you need. Other than that, ST, Onsemi, Microchip, Diodes, Infineon, Renesas and many more have switching converters. Murata and TDK also have some nice modules.

Wurth has some devices ( https://www.digikey.sk/en/product-highlight/w/wurth-electronics/magi3c-power-modules ), Analog Devices has some really cool parts, TI... depends on the target current/voltage.

A great deal of TI DC-DC converters are still very hard to buy, despite overall supply chains improving.  Unless critical to a product, we avoid designing their parts in right now.

MPS make very good parts and their technical service team is excellent too,  they confirmed a few ambiguities in the datasheet quickly.

If MPS is reliable. I will basically go with them as they have pretty much same specifications for the parts and the sized are also pretty much similar.

Ooh, MPS do switchers with integrated inductors? Cool :)

The biggest issue with replacing the Enpirion parts is the size factor. The overall layout of the previous design I have is pretty compact so there is little to no room for more area. Enpirion parts can be controlled digitally (with logic) or with voltage dividers at output (analog). Most of the replacements for Enpirion parts are pretty much double the size or even more. The best size and specifications fit are the MPS parts, but they are mostly analog controlled with voltage dividers which comes with extra parts usually more resistors. If not anything looks like my best bet are the Enpirion parts.

Do you have a specific Enpirion part in mind, or at least some specifications relating to required input and output voltages, currents and size? Making sensible recommendations is very difficult otherwise.

EV1320QI is something I am really struggling with. It is a DDR termination part which is only 3mm by 3mm in size.

I've used LTC3618 before for DDR termination, but it's a bit bigger at 4x4mm.  However, it also gives you the Vdd for the memory itself so maybe you can benefit from that and save space elsewhere.

Are there more options for replacements for EV1320QI, a buck DDR voltage termination part?
