Just a friendly reminder that the original DSE style black Jiffy Box version of the ESR Meter kit is back in stock at Altronics K2574). Fresh run of the kits (23/11/2012!). I purchased mine from the Sydney store, and although the website is yet to be updated to reflect the fact that they are in stock.
While i like all things new, the blue version just doesn't tickle my fancy, i wanted the 'old' box style with Red displays so waited it out until the new batch run became availible. Soldering iron heating as i type!
Cheers.

All was going well until it turns out its missing the 1K resistors (since moving i cant find my box that has my resistor packets in it!) and some washers for the metal standoffs so the LEDs now hit the acrylic panel is annoying. I have to go back today and hit them up for the missing parts. Such a pain because Jaycar is closer.
It will be worth it in the end i'm sure.

Ended up going to Jaycar, i got lazy, washers and resistors and a bit of time spent calibrating and making nice all done.
Shame though, the caps i was sure were dead (i replaced them and an amplifier came back to life) tested OK on the meter (6800uf 80v - 0.02ohms). Oh well !
Good little project none the less. I think a 10 turn pot would be better for the calibration though because its quite sensitive and just between calibration and final assembly it had flicked over to the next digit when i checked it. I tried to set the pot right in the middle of where it wanted to change between the two +1 / -1 when i did the calibration, but maybe i failed with that.
