Even worse cassette mechanism
« on: June 29, 2020, 08:05:30 pm »
Techmoan was pretty negative towards the Tanashin cassette mechanisms in his modern Aldi boomboxes, but I think this one is even worse.

The head looks like it was polished with a nail file and gouged with a claw hammer for good measure. Does anyone expect this to not peel your tapes apart like a carrot in a peeler?

It's from this

Yeah I found some cassettes in my stuff and I wanted to hear what's on them. Not with this thing I won't.

Take some fine sandpaper and polish it.

Simple;
Take a grinder wheel and polish it until the sparks stop flying.

As opposed to what? The rebranded ones that are exactly the same unit?

Any quality deck is by now 20 to 30 years old with belt troubles and petrified rubber parts and worn heads....

Stiff or decomposed rubber true, not necessarily worn heads, plenty of tape decks were produced during the CD's glory era and seldom used.
If you want something worth the cash buy old.
