I remember a short exchange from "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" by Stoppard: One is worried about the boat trip that they are taking, and is concerned that they may be dead. The other retorts "Being dead is not being on a boat.", and the first objects "I have often not been on a boat.".
When I queried friends at school whose first languages were Spanish, they said that joke would not work at all in Spanish.
