this caught my on facebook the blurb and picture, some times i surprised by how ignorant some people are spamming rubbish like this
READ THIS!!!! IMPORTANT FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI HOSPITAL .....VERY SERIOUS WARNING...
I do this all the time! I guess I won't be doing it ANY more !
A few days ago, a person was recharging his mobile phone at home.
Just at that time a call came in and he answered it with the charging Instrument still connected to the outlet.
After a few seconds electricity flowed into the cell phone unrestrained and the young man was thrown to the floor with a heavy thud. As you can see, the phone actually exploded.
His parents rushed to the room only to find him unconscious, with a weak heartbeat and burnt fingers.
He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
cell phones are a very useful modern invention.
However, we must be aware that it can also be an instrument of death.
Never use the cell phone while it is hooked to the electrical outlet! If you are charging the cell phone and a call comes in, unplug it from the charger and outlet.
FORWARD THIS TO THE PEOPLE THAT MATTER IN YOUR LIFE!!

The ignorant will always be ignorant -- there is no stopping that.

And all the clever people have already been killed by answering calls on their mobile phones while they were plugged in :-DD :-DD

On a darker note, looks like someone has taken the rather unfortunate demise of someone and formed their own opinion.
My turn!
Either a battery fire (the damage to the surroundings is very obvious... normal electrocution wouldn't result in any of this damage.)
Or a cheap made-in-China charger takes another victim?

I second the charger fault.

Seeing as it was in bed how likely is it that the phone was under a pillow and overheated to the point where the battery vented, and then caught fire.
-
Isn't the "intelligent" portion of the charge system in the phone itself and don't nearly all phone batteries have built in temp protection?
-
The RF section itself has no temp sensor, so it was likely just heating everything up till the battery vented. The last time I saw a temp sensor that was readable was on an old Ericsson phone, and an old Nokia cheapie.
-
At least my Android has a temp sensor that reads down to 0.1C ;)
-
Battery explosion. Probably cheap made-in-China battery at fault...
Most of them fail while being charged, so not surprising someone with less knowledge would make the false causal relation.
That begs the question, if someone unplugged it to take a call and it vented right afterwards, would the story be ranting with the opposite advice?
-
Battery vent, and not the hand of a corpse. Some folks will write anything to be a hero.
Is it just me ,or does that plug look like its wrapped in electrical tape?

Electrical tape ... now THAT's the person's fault
-
Another hypothesis and far more likely, the person went to bed with a phone and a lighted cigarette or cigar, fell asleep and set fire to the bed, the phone just happened to be on the bed and became a victim as well. Look at the position of the burns on the hand in the picture.
