Fake FT232RLs on Gravitech FT232 mini USB development board
« on: November 13, 2016, 01:05:58 pm »
Ordered a couple of these boards last week from a well known supplier. On powering them up (latest driver from the FTDI website) the produced the well known "non genuine device found" message. Contacted supplier, who apologised and sent two replacement boards - only for these to have exactly the same issue. These were from a different batch too. Contacted Gravitech to inform them of the problem, but no reply...

Meanwhile I purchased a couple of genuine FT232 chips from a well known UK supplier, and soldered these in place of the fake parts on the Gravitech boards, and all is now fine. Shouldn't have to be spending my time and money working around fake chips like this when I'm buying supposedly quality items from a very well known supplier! Jus thought I'd post this as a warning to others that the fakes are out there. Almost impossible to see any difference at all in appearance between the fake parts and the real items.
