Fake Tracking Numbers from Amazon?

(1/1)

edpalmer42:
I've got an order coming from Amazon.  I'm in Canada and the package was shipped by Amazon from a Canadian warehouse.  The courier is Intelcom.

As expected, Amazon provided a tracking number and there have been a few updates shown at Amazon.  But when I go to Intelcom's web site, the tracking number doesn't exist.  Intelcom's help desk confirmed that the tracking number is bogus.

I did an online chat with Amazon to see what they said.  "We need to transfer you to another team to resolve your issue."  I got tired of waiting and gave up.

This isn't the first time this has happened.  The package shows up on schedule, but I find it annoying to have to log in to Amazon just to check the shipping status.  It's even more annoying that Amazon is giving me a bogus tracking number in the first place.  What's the point?

Has anyone seen something like this?

I have a late Amazon delivery right now. The tracking on Amazon has a few updates but less than this tracking service. Not sure why that is!  |O

Try this one what does it say?

If your package takes multiple hops, Amazon may only be giving you the first-hop tracking number. This is common for AliExpress too. Other sites will let you find the rest of the tracking.

Very interesting!

It looks like the tracking number that Amazon gave me is the *last* hop tracking number.  The package started with 'Amazon Swiship US', likely in the United States, then jumped to Canada, then jumped 3500 km. across Canada, all with 'Amazon Swiship US'.  The reason Intelcom isn't acknowledging the number is likely that they haven't received the package yet.

Amazon could have just told me that instead of treating it like it's a state secret! >:(

Thanks for the link, xrunner.

With things coming from China, is this any surprise?

I have an Amazon order that is scheduled for end of January, early February delivery. Their tracking shows nothing beyond "Order Received". I am sure it is coming from China, probably on a ship as I type. I think this shows it is the later hops that Amazon can show, not the first.

When that ship is unloaded and the package is put in the hands of a US carrier the tracking will suddenly spring to life. Until then, there is probably nothing I nor Amazon can do other than wait patiently.

If you want it otherwise, then pay more to use a US or other non-Chinese source.

What really irks me is now Amazon is using two factor authentication. And they did not give me a choice of how that second factor is sent. So now, I have to be chained to a cell phone like a teenage twit if I want to log in. If anything would turn me off on Amazon or any other service, that will.
