Faraday cage made with wallpaper
« on: May 10, 2012, 01:49:37 pm »
A French firm has a new product, wallpaper with embedded Wi-Fi blocking.

Unfortunately I don't speak French; perhaps someone else could summarize the article for us?

Google translated it with no problems at all.

Google Chrome browser with Google Translate extension. Great combo.

You pretty much summed it up: "A French firm has a new product, wallpaper with embedded Wi-Fi blocking".

Not much more to say, except that it can also block cell phones.

Yet 3rd paragraph is not really clear : It is mentionned that you can block up to three frequencies. My guess is that you can buy a specific wallpaper designed to block certain frequencies (mobile phone, wifi), but you cannot "retarget it" on the fly.

Regarding price, it should cost much more than middle-range wallpaper.

The article doesn't go into technical specification. It would be great to have a link to the actual press release from the designer (a french engineering school).

OK if you want to stop wifi getting into your room, don't suppose its such a good idea if you want to prevent wifi getting out. The effect will be like sitting in a low power microwave oven

what a useless idea ...

The first window or door that comes along punches a massive hole in the shield ... back to the drawing board boys ... this is a screen door on a submarine...

Not only that, in many places it is illegal to block cellphone communications. It may be allowable in private homes but it would limit its use in businesses etc.
