Are you gonna be a cleaner worker? Stop buying everything that might come in handy in 15 years? better document your projects?

Some things i need to do, but probably won't:

 - Rid myself of all the old boat anchor gear.  It's cool and all, but heavy and takes up too much space.  I probably have 20+ rack mount instruments in various states of repair.
 - Try to reduce the +/-10F lab temp swings.
 - Further integrate decades of software to better workflow.

Move lab to Digikey's backyard.

1) Limit myself to no more than 3 projects at a time.
2) Don't open anything up that I won't have time to repair before moving.
3) Make the time to fill in some big knowledge gaps before it becomes necessary.
4) Get rid of some excess equipment I don't use.
5) Stop buying things just because I'm curious about what's in it's guts.
6) Spend more money on my wife's hobbies for cover in the event I fail at some of these resolutions.

My decision to have crypto mining fund my electronics hobby has steadily cut down on my hobby spending thanks to rising difficulty. I have since realized that I should play more with the "toys" I have rather than keep getting new stuff to play with. Actually, the difficulty is high enough that I have little to gain keeping my mining secrets a secret. What I would like to see are supporters of independent content building their own mining setups and sharing some of the profit with their favorite content creators. https://pastebin.com/XvACe09K

As far as my electronics hobby goes, what I would like to do is to learn more about FPGA programming, which is proving difficult because it's really different from the "conventional" programming I'm used to.
Cryptocurrency has taught me to love math and at the same time be baffled by it.

The first step is to stop looking at it as programming and to start viewing it as configuring. Viewing it as programming sets you up for confusion and a struggle.

Here! Here! on using my toys and spending less. 8)
Regarding crypto mining, Is the average person making money on this. With the drop in price, and the cost of a fast enough system, the energy costs, and air controls required i wonder if it wll really make money. I am hearing of people having 100 to 200 computers running at once..and they seem to be making just a little profit.

I am really curious about how  Ian Scott Johnston's mining operation is doing. Being in Scotland, I think would virtually eliminate cooling costs.  :o

For me, my plan is to just keep finding stuff people are leaving on the street as free. however, This is an affluent area and I find people leaving all types of computers, printers, large flat screens etc. There are also a lot of artists who have to bale out of this city and they put all types on interesting stuff on the street. In the US, more and more people are doing this type of stuff.

Every year MIT and CalTech have flea markets where some incredible stuff are sold off for dollars. With a pickup and Craig's list there is all types of stuff in the Chicago area where people in the more affluent neighborhoods offer free stuff if you just go pick it up. I have a friend who furnished her new house with expensive antiques, colonial, oak antique..which if U-hauled out west, people pay ten times what people in the Midwest will pay.

if you're creative, or have some clever DIY electronic / art-like product Etsy is a great place. I have a friend in LA who sells period clothes on ebay and it pays for her home and traveling lifestyle.

What else, I don't know..For me, I I want to save my marriage,She's made it clear, i have to stop buying, and begin generating an extra revenue stream. :palm:

Swagbucks, at least, is still very efficient to mine - less than 5% of the profit is able to cover electricity expenses as of the time the script was being rolled out to public (very carefully, to avoid a fast influx of new miners that might induce instability). The catch is that it would take a few months to pay for just the hardware costs of a new setup even with the unrealistic assumption that difficulty does not increase further. Hence why the intended target of the "Jericho Key" are hobbyists who already have the proper hardware lying around (Raspberry Pi + otherwise unused Android phone or tablet) and want to play around in order to help out their favorite content creators. By sharing the mining profit with content creators, the whole community benefits.

I don't know if the end of your post about "wanting to save your marriage" was meant to be a funny or not but it did make me LOL a bit.  :-DD

It's just like pulling a plaster off buddy... 1 short sharp swipe and that's it job done!

If your TEA is affecting your marriage you need to get divorced ASAP.... it'll only end up getting worse and may end up getting in the way of your future TEA and you can't have that!!  :)

I am joking of course but it did make me LOL a bit.

I hope things pan out ok for you and you have a good new year!  :-+
Sparks and Smoke means i'm nearly there!
