I know its not exactly electronics related, I apologise in advance, but worth a read to cheer everyone up, I just had to share.

Good old “Flat Earthers”.   

The world is full of loons, but very occasionally they pick the wrong forum in which to voice their opinion, or look for funding or support.

I recently found a hilarious page on line where a few very respected astronauts (including Buzz Aldrin) roasted some rapper called B.o.B, who is apparently seeking crowd funding to launch a satellite into space to “Help Bob find the curve”, he wants to look for the edge of the Earth......oh dear

Hmm. But if it's flat and we're only on one side, the "sky" is facing this one side. If you just throw rockets from the edges, they are gonna go the other direction. Not pointing to the "sky". What is that called exactly? Hell or something?

It must be that whatever is below (if that is a flat earth concept) the edge is infinite; truly a concept flat earthers cannot comprehend.    Hell hath no fury like a flat earther debunked. 
Therefore anything forced off the edge will be pulled by the centripetal reaction of the spinning disc will force such objects into the earth’s magnetic field and into a halo like orbit. 
But what if the earth disc isn’t spinning?  Well there goes that theory!   
If the earth disc is stationary, then everything is spinning around it--- that’s almost biblical.  So if we kick something off into the sky. It should spin around like an orbiting Tesla.
In truth, I think flat earthers should be encouraged to send themselves up in their own engineered space craft.  Darwin and Murphy are awaiting the results.

Actually, I think a government agency needs to step in and require a very large crew requirement (for safety / redundancy). I think I would be OK with the tax payer picking up some short term costs associated with getting flat earthers into orbit. I feel it will cost tax payers more if flat earthers are left roaming down here prorating.

If the Earth is some other weird shape, everyone will soon know by looking at both groups footage and selfies,
assuming they don't have a Flat vs Round punch-on whilst attaining orbit    and come down in flames

I reallly think it would be worth sending on of their top (Cant believe I am going to use this word) experts  in to space just to watch his/her little facial expression change.

I mean really, which numb skull came up with this theory first, and how many mind bending drugs had they comsumed on the eve of this “revelation”?

They actually believe that there is a 150 foot ice wall right around the edge of the earth to stop “Grand Theft” (lol) type scenarios, and very conveniently it is impossible to explore this area due to it being absolue zero (-273 degrees centigrade)

Ranulph fiennes surely must have saw something on his circumnavigation of both poles??

I think a good part of flat earthers are not that stupid as many of us assume. To me it looks like many of them do it for profit, same with religions. They are well aware of reality, and they exploit people weaknesses. So, it's silly to prove them anything, they know it already. Probably, they laugh on our naivety when we try to "explain" them what they already know. It's a battle we cannot win.

Nobody is asking the really important flat earth question though, if the earth is flat, what's on the underside and how far down do we have to drill to get to it?

The underworld of course, gotta be many kilometers of impenetrable rock along the way, and you will get there in time

I have to agree with you.
Flat-earth"gurus" are actually very clever, P.T. Barnum style, whose famous saying "A sucker is born every minute" is as valid today as it was back then.

I'm guessing that the ratio is 90%:9%:1%
90% are in it for the shits and giggles, just trolling people.
9% are irredeemably stupid and honestly believe it.

thats why you see so many false religions deluding people from the real thing... there are 3 type of ignorants, one are those who think earth is flat because they dont have a tool and stick to the plan that they wont want to find out the truth... and the second is... because they dont want to use their brain hard enough to think (even though the real book is there they wont bother to find out which) and want to stick with the idea that an intelligence came to being from a giant bowl of mixed up soup descended to apes.

I think there's two sides in the flat earthers concept:

- The ignorants that just won't be bothered to use their brain. They read or listen to what others think, and they just accept it at face value
- The leaders that plan and implement organizations, events, create websites and other material for the comsumption of the ignorants.

The leaders know damn well that the earth is not flat. I'm thinking there are two goals:

1) Scamming people (monetary gain)
2) Doing a government funded social experiment, where the goal is to research ways to make people stop using their brains and accept whatever is told to be fact. The science of this is really very useful. All governments want to herd their population like sheep

oh thats not going to work very well on flat earth concept.. though it worked very well on "eternal earth" concept. that you should enjoy your life while you still can or give your entire soul for the cause.
