Flickr alternative?
« on: November 15, 2018, 06:37:46 pm »
Hello, I like posting mostly electronic-related photos online for everyone to see without a need to sign in. In 2012 or so i founded my Google Picasa Photos account. https://get.google.com/albumarchive/106264218831814439783?source=pwa
In 2016 or so it was screwed up! You must sign in to see new photo albums.
:-(

No longer I can publish any photos in this "archive". But at least they never deleted my photos. They are still available...

So in 2016 I established my Flickr account. https://www.flickr.com/photos/korytnackaseven/albums/with/72157680936093373
But it will be screwed up in 2019.  :( :(

Free users with more than 1,000 photos or videos will have until January 8th, 2019, to upgrade to Pro or download their surplus content. After January 8th, free users with over 1,000 pictures or videos won’t be able to upload any more. And on February 5th, 2019, free accounts that are still over the limit will have their content actively deleted until they’re back under 1,000 (starting with the oldest content first).
What should I do? I still want a free non unpaid "international" photo gallery.
Can you please recommend me an alternative for Flickr?
What about https://www.zonerama.com/?
I put up with a 15GB limit. Photos can have some compression. 8Mpix per photo is enough for me.

Does it have to be free?

I think free options are always going to be quite restrictive.

Would having your own webserver/domain for a few pounds per year be viable? That way the photos can easily be accessed by anyone with no need for a login, and no need for ads.

Well, I have no problem with some advertisements.
Which one from these do you recommend?

Imgur?
Cryptocurrency has taught me to love math and at the same time be baffled by it.

Cryptocurrency lesson 0: Altcoins and Bitcoin are not the same thing.

OK, I made an Imgur account. https://imgur.com/user/Korytnacka7
But I do not like it much. It will be probably OK for posting like 20 photos gallery of a teardown or something. But not so great for 100+ photos albums!
So I made another Flickr profile. https://www.flickr.com/photos/korytnacka77/
I hope it is legal and they will not delete my less than 1000 photos.
Zonerama.com is strange, you cannot enlarge photos while exploring them...

Ipernity.com

They have a free account but for anything more serious you will want to subscribe.

I have never heard about them... They have only 25000 users.

Not sure how accurate that number is, they were doing large cleanups recently (plus it says 25000 active users which isn't quite the same thing as all users). They also went through ownership changes recently with the original company going out of business, now the site is community owned by a small non-profit.

iPernity has been around for 10+ years. I have moved there during the first major Flickr exodus in 2009 or so when Yahoo started to censor the Flickr photo content in fairly hamfisted ways and never looked back. I have hundreds of photos there, no problems at all.

You don't get millions of fancy features there but you don't get any of the profit seeking BS common on the other sites neither - tracking, ads, claiming rights to your pictures, having to pay extra for every little bit of functionality.

More than ten years now, and still running.  Not sure about how much space they offer.  I keep there just a few pics, mostly for online posting.
