Hi all,
just got this video showing features of the Fluke 87V some people may not be aware of.
Fluke 87 V / 28-II Power on features (Not obviously visible features) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4UCdc4A18k#ws)
Regards

Siemens mode was the only feature I knew about...so much for RTFM lol. Good stuff.
-
IIRC the power-on options used to be written on the underside of the meter in the older models.
Dave.

Yeah Dave, remember how you ranted about them leaving them of the "V" gen when you did your (excellent, by the way) video review of the 87V? ;)

That they do, Pic of the back of my 87-3 attached :)

Funnily enough just this morning I used the nS range to measure an 0805 resistor that turned out to be 50Gohms... A bit unstable but useable.

hey nice tutorial on that fluke.wish i had a fluke now :(

If I buy a Fluke 87-5 from Amazon does that void the warranty? Amazon is not listed as a "Fluke authorized resellers", but the have the best price on the net.

Best explanation of the smoothing function ever! ;) ;)

I bought my 87-5 from Amazon and successfully registered it with Fluke. This was spring of 2011.
I also purchased a 287 (new) from a third party on NewEgg and Fluke View Forms from Amazon. I was able to register them both with Fluke and received the $100 rebate they had at the time. This was December 2011.
I am confident that if i had a warranty claim they would be covered.
If you are thinking of going with a Agilent DMM they have a promotion going for a free 1272A DMM with the purchase of a 3600 series DC Power Supply. Good in USA or Canada only. See attached PDF.

Does that include only the resistor or does it include any surface film of moisture or contamination on the outside of the resistor body? ;D

Why you would remove that is beyond me!

For a different multimeter I just printed the relevant part of the user manual so it would fit and used tape to stick it to the stand. A low-tech solution, but with better contrast than the raised lettering. Probably won't survive rough handling, however.

Probably some new pointless euro directive, to avoid confusing the French or something equally illogical! Ford removed a LH drivers footrest that buyers loved because 0.0000001% of the chronically bewildered were mistaking it for a clutch in automatic vehicles.
Some design decisions defy any form of reason or logic.

If it's sold by Amazon directly, No (confirmed Amazon is an Authorized Fluke Seller with Fluke over the phone). If it was through another seller that lists on Amazon's site, you'd have to check out that particular vendor though.

LMFAO!! The first time I drove a Ford, I 1) made the mistake of thinking the foot-actuated parking brake was some sort of awkwardly positioned clutch, 2) scratched my head for a while figuring out how to release the parking brake, and 3) had to pull over cause I couldn't find the damn head light switch...granted, I was 16 at the time and it was my old man's company car.

They removed it so they could use the same back part for the 83 and 87 - tight a**es.

My old Tektronix TX3 has it on the back as well. I've referred to it a few times over the years.
Pictures attached, just for fun.
