FLUKE DMM pricing USA - EU I need my pills ..
« on: September 22, 2010, 01:54:43 pm »
I am just checking the latest prices , and I found an true mystery  !!

Currently the  87-5 in comparison with the similar 28II ,
It goes like the the 28II  to be 80$ more expensive than the 87-5 in USA ,
and the 28II  its 80 EUR less expensive than 87-5 in Europe ??

About the European prices , I did cross check with  France Germany and Greece ..

Does any one have an clue of what is going on ?

Example from France ( Fluke page )
Fluke 87V  € 472
FLUKE 28-II  € 399

I have been looking to upgrade the lab at my company and found that the prices of equipment are concealed.
When in Europe you cannot find the price of equipment in the US at Mouser, Arrow or Farnell.
They are probably doing business via dealers here in Europe.
I guess this has to do with branding. I have seen this with clothing. You can buy a jeans in the US at Sears for $30.
The same jeans cost in Europe €70.

So the brand name stands for an amount of money.
The worst thing you can do as a brand is to lower the price.
With the economic crises going on one thing you can do to promote sales is to add value like if you buy a Fluke 87 you get a holster, carry case, Fluke 117 for free.

It would be nice to have an informal price compare here in this forum.
Why spend money I don't have on things I don't need to impress people I don't like?

I wonder if there are different tax rates on industrial vs electronic purposed equipment.

I am not familiar with import / export systems in Europe, but in central America the manufacturers were often blind or unable to dictate terms to their resellers since the products were often distributed by one major importer for entire countries without a competitor. So you have an importer screwing with prices since they wanted to push the products they got more margin on, or price set products that sold better.  Many of the countries were not big enough to support two importers so the problem was unending especially since often legal recourse was less than viable.

Maybe the 28II is cheaper in Europe because it omits all of the GSM frequency radio shielding required in the rest of the world? It's probably best for you avoid it.

Example from France ( Fluke page )
Fluke 87V  € 472
FLUKE 28-II  € 399

that does seem odd.  does it affect real dealer prices, or just the list prices?

on fluke.co.uk the 87V and 28-II are listed as 350 and 359 GBP, respectively.  actual street prices from authorized dealers are around 335 and 375 GBP (including VAT at 17.5%).

on that basis, it looks more that the 87V is overpriced in euro.  83V is similarly affected, so it cannot be just a typo.

Well  lets keep out the VAT , because it does not effect the prices of the two models ..

Even in Africa I found the  28II  more expensive than the 87-5 ..

And another issue are , that because it is priced less in Europe ,
the dealers thinks that it is an lower in performance model !!

It seems strange. My wild guess is that they updated (increased) the price of the 87-V more recently, and didn't touch the 28-II price because they still had stock (less volume). Another option could be that the decreased the 28-II price to compete with a local brand like Gossen in a certain niche market. Can't see any logical explanation otherwise.

(Oups just read that ...)   I know that , and it is an dramatic effect that causes an price explosion at all the product range of FLUKE .

But from my current knowledge it looks that the FLUKE UK its like an separate village , that has nothing to do with Holland and the rest Europe , so it has an completely different pricing.

Currently  the lowest pricing in Greece from the Fluke Greece are like .
384 EUR  for the 87-5  ( No VAT )
334 EUR  for the 28II  ( No VAT )
By the latest VAT 23%  its goes  472 & 410 EUR
