--- Quote from: Simon on March 07, 2020, 05:45:52 pm ---No censorship but we are trying to stay on topic. the topic was RC rules in the US, not the ethics of hacking equipment. --- End quote --- While some was way off base it is an interesting glimpse at the mindset of the law doesn't apply to me because..... what XYZ laws laws over here transference arguments make it ok for me to break this law :palm: This is in part why the Rules are being clamped down on. Some of the issues are caused by people who are genuinely ignorant of current law and some are caused by dills breaking them because of arrogance or the 'law is an ass'. Stack this with media driven hysteria about 'drones', commercial lobbyists for industry and you get casual users trying to enjoy their hobby or pastime being lumbered with heavy handed legislation. |

These regulations aren't a response to any perceived "breaking of laws". They are a response to a market which many believe could become massive, which means huge regulatory/licensing fee revenue for governments, private entities, etc and if said growth occurs, also means a big need for coordination in populated metropolitan areas. Imagine delivery drones flying all over new york city with no regulations. On the other hand, the regs are rather irrelevant in low population areas. In the end, one thing is for sure - It's all about money! |

--- Quote from: joeqsmith on March 07, 2020, 06:02:54 pm --- snip.... I know it's not on topic, but it would be interesting to see some pictures of your planes, even in a new thread. I played a bit with my own balsa doped tissue planes. The early ones were rubber band powered. I had a book on RC controlling a rubber band powered plane. The controls were also rubber powered. Something more like a stepper motor with 90 degree steps. I wanted to try and build something like that but it was beyond my skill level at the time. ... --- End quote --- http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/index.php is the place to go. The problem with creating a thread here is is has the potential to rival the TEA one in it's rambles and breadth. The control system you are thinking of is an escarpment radio control system. They are before my time but there is still some information out there on them. |

Some of the balsa planes are works of art. |

Sorry to the topic but a few of mine as @joe asked to peek ;) . I mainly fly performance F3B and F3J gliders and performance Electrics but a couple of my older Balsa Builds in the middle. The high wing Cabin model is just a great no stress toy to give others a go at flying and it can be flown anywhere without annoying the natives around a local park. The old Gryphon Glider in the middle I built over 25 years ago and is still a favourite toy. The Glider Left is for Dynamic soaring and the Electric Pylon Racer far right tops out over 300km/hr |
