| Forum getting too popular? |

Given the size of this forum perhaps it is time to market it more effectively, instead of changing to post as suggested above. I can only speak as one poster; but this is the first forum I have joined since 1994 where I actually regularly read the ads more than once per to day; sometimes several times a day. |

Long time no update , here we go until yesterday. - Looks like new posts and new threads rate are stabilizing. - A blip of new members joining at the end of Jan 2017. - Page views hit a new record at early Jan 2017, congratz Dave. Interpretation is yours. |

Dave, may I make a suggestion: Perhaps it's time to review the number of moderators you have. I've seen a noticeable increase in the number of new users who like to stir the pot and that just gets the existing trolls all hot and bothered. Not to mention the sheer number of new posts generated each day. It's a huge work load for you and Simon. If you do decide to do this, hand-pick those who meet your criteria, don't just open it up to applications or you'll get all and sundry sticking their hand up for it. There are a lot of mature and sensible people on here who I'm sure would be happy to lend a hand. Now before someone posts a reply going on about turning this forum into a "policed" forum where free speech will be affected, it's not about that. People are free to express whatever opinion they want but there is a right and wrong way to do it. Moderators aren't there to silence people they disagree with, they're there to respond to instances where things just get out of control or to deal with malicious users. |

IMHO Simon and Dave do a pretty good job but it must be remembered that it is not entirely without member input and in some way this makes the forum all of ours and hence it constantly evolves. If the standard of what's expected behaviour is clear in the stickys and we're not too shy to use the report button then issues can be dealt to in a timely manner. If more Moderators are needed thought could be given to complementing the time zones of Simon and Dave for better 24hr coverage. How much time/week is normally spent on current day moderation duties ? |

--- Quote from: EEVblog on February 08, 2012, 10:46:13 pm ---I know it's a good thing... But is it just me, or has the volume of posts increased a lot recently? I now commonly see 3-4 pages of posts when I hit the Unread Posts link, and that's only after like an 8 hour sleep or something. I couldn't keep up before reading all the posts, and now it's shifted from simply too hard, to impossible! :o Dave. --- End quote --- Don't panic, Dave, keep up your opinionated rants on non-EE/political subjects that annoy people and no one asked you for (your "opinons" are not THAT important to the world, sorry, people subscribe to you for EE related, not "Dave has an opinion on world events"), and your view counts (and forum members) will soon take a nose dive. Don't be a victim of your own success~ |
