Forum structure(?) issues, or missing features
« on: December 13, 2016, 04:34:14 pm »
I've looked through all the buttons / links up top that i could, but i've yet to find a few things i'm quite used to, on all the other (not many) forums i'm on.

1) How can one's own timezone be set? Right now the forum says it's 3:32am (likely in Australia?), but in my local timezone it's 18:32 (ie. 6:32 PM)
2) How can one access their "sent" message box? There's a tickbox to save the private message to one's "sent" box, but...

I'll add more items here, as i stumble across them.

LATER EDIT: I finally managed to find THAT particular profile editing page, but dang it was well-hidden (or at least not at all obvious)  :D

Some simply don't exist. Each forum is different.

Some are just hidden, I couldn't tell you either of these as I never use them.
I forget who I am sometimes, but then I remember that it's probably not worth remembering.

If there's a link or button that will jump to the first message in a thread that I have not read, I can't find it.

There are the go up/go down buttons.

On the far right hand side there's a suare button with a right facing arrow head. This takes you to the last post. Took me a while to find it as well.

Edit: oops misread your messages as 'last post'.

At least you don't have to change timezones all that often.

Only twice as often as you should have to.

There should be an orange box to the right of the subject line in the list of threads that says 'NEW'.  Click on this button, and it will take you to the first new post.

If it jams, force it.  If it breaks, you needed a new one anyway...

A feature that I think is pretty neat is: forum tracks your viewing.....no it's not that bad........
Say you're watching/reading a thread and have no intention of posting in it but you want to keep an eye on it for whatever reason.
Here, we must either click on the Subject matter, OP or last post and then endeavour to find where we last stopped reading.  ::)

Other forums....just click on the Subject and you end up at your last read post from which you just carry on where you left off.  ;D

If Dave could install a patch to do that.  :-+

This would be my number one on my wish list.  Sometimes I have to make a dumb ass reply so I can follow.  Someone once mentioned they use "thanks" to do this but I never figured it out.  Pleasssse

I don't follow what you mean. I set mine years ago and never looked at it again.

That would be because your DST is in line with Daves. The forum is set to his local timezone so he never has to adjust for DST - consequently, everyone who doesn't share the same DST period has to change their settings four times a year.

And for those who still can't find it, your timezone setting is hiding in plain sight right here: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/profile/?area=theme

You're most welcome!  LOL - it only took me a month or three to happen to click on it and realize it was a link to get to the first unread rather than just a flag indicating that there were new posts in the thread!  Up until that point I'd been cursing under my breath that there was no way to simply jump to first unread and instead going to the last page and scrolling back and forth till I found it.

Click on the orange 'new' flag to the right of the thread title...

Thanks this was a great find and I will use it from now on.   :-+    Now I wish there was a way to watch a thread without making a post so I am going to start using  this  -->

I just add a page or a particular post URL to a drop down bookmark or favorites list should I want to return to a certain spot, this dedicated bookmarks folder gets amended almost daily as I regularly add or delete URLs, seems to work well for my needs and I do the same for other things such as Ebay items that I'm watching, IE: Ebay Items List.
