Post by: Deathwish on May 31, 2015, 04:58:17 pm

Thank God, I thought it was me, I get up and the first thing I do is look for new posts, make coffee, put my project on the bench, read more posts, buy stuff on ebay or look for Toploser to sell something I want, forget project , time for bed  :scared:.

Don't read the forum at work, or I would get nothing done.

I think he refers on working on actual projects. And he is not alone I probably spend more time on the forum than working on projects, and when I finally do work on something I post it in here if I think it would be of interest to others.

Edit, case and point:

I found a post that made me work on modifying a python script used to capture the screen on the Rigol DS1000z series so it would work on my DS2000 one that has no telnet support so I modified it to use alex.forencich's vxi11.

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/python-based-instrument-control/msg676772/#msg676772 (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/python-based-instrument-control/msg676772/#msg676772)

I was going to work on changing it to capture the actual waveforms on various formats that should be a breeze to do but that was 11 days ago.

I got distracted with the use of an old cga monitor thread so I put time there to explain things:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/projects/make-use-of-an-old-cga-monitor/msg679225/#msg679225 (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/projects/make-use-of-an-old-cga-monitor/msg679225/#msg679225)

Then other distractions including how fast is an analog scope vs a digital one:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/first-personal-'scope-purchase/msg681691/#msg681691 (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/first-personal-'scope-purchase/msg681691/#msg681691)

and I can't resist a puzzle that I'm able to solve so:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/lets-play-a-game (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/lets-play-a-game)!/msg683385/#msg683385

Maybe today I work on the script, but I bet something else will pull me away from it.

I try not to let work get in the way of my forum reading. Between here and Slashdot I'm a busy guy.

F*ck beta! Go to Soylentnews ;)

I'm unfortunately 'retired'. If I was at work I wouldn't have the available time to follow forums. It has always been almost impossible to just to keep up with professional publications never mind the plethora of forums.

I suppose someone somewhere has created a forum to distil and impart the vital information relevant to a professionals' legal requirements, in particular as said requirements change.

 :scared: :-// :wtf:

Once the morning administrivia is out of the way (starting at about 6:50), breakfast, foxnews.com and then the EEVBlog.  I typically do the blog in the morning, late in the afternoon (that is, if work doesn't get in the way) and in the evening.  Even if there aren't service calls, there is still the emails, phone calls from other techs, etc that need taken care of.  I try to stay away from doing anything personal because I don't want to be in the middle of something and have to leave to run a service call.  I hate interruptions.  I don't mind stopping something for a quick phone call, but nothing extended.  I don't like multitasking for the same reason; start one thing, finish it and then on to the next.
