Parents have funny senses of humor. I have known two different individuals named Richard Hymen. Both went by the familiar form Dick. Sometimes it is just a matter of pronunciation. There are two obvious choices for the very common surname Braswell (also spelled Brasswell). The ones I know personally insist on the pronunciation that doesn't sell lingerie. |

I remember an engineer from the UK who bears the family name 'Quirk'. I really don't know what made him take up a technical profession and how he managed to get through his studies and early working years. |
