Going from medior to senior hardware engineer
(1/1)
becomingasenior:
I'm currently a medior (3/3 level) hardware engineer. I would like to push for the senior role, but that depends from company to company.
What are some general things that I should work on as a medior to get to a senior position? The key is general here.
What were some things that promoted you to senior?
rfclown:
Be good at what you do. Constantly educate yourself to expand your skills. The ideal projects on your day job allow you to expand your knowledge while benefitting the company. When that's not happening, do it on your own time/dime.
ebastler:
Have you talked to your manager about this, or to other managers (adjacent teams or next level up) in your current company? Ask for their guidance: What are they looking for in general in a "senior" role; which improvement areas do they see for you specifically?
As you state, expectations will vary from company to company. Assuming that a promotion at your current workplace is one option to get to senior level, why not ask them about their expectations? Also, it can't hurt to make your boss aware of your ambition.

I always get something out of the EEVblog 8)

I would assume that (in this context) it qualifies as a word only in some rather large companies. ::)
EDIT: Having checked Google, it might also indicate that the OP is working in the Netherlands, where that term seems more common?
