The problem is ebay still has the largest audience by far, so it's hard for anyone else to gain that critical mass. I do keep wishing for more competition though, that's part of the reason ebay is like dealing with the mob, they have no real competition in the auction space and they know it.

Yup, bonanza dot com was founded in 2008, 13 years ago, and previously called Bonanzle. Their business model positions the company as a direct competitor to eBay: both private and commercial sellers offer all kinds of products on the market place, in addition to new goods, but private sellers advertise free of charge and the website takes less commission. This sounds Built to Propel Your Business.

After several minutes of looking i still do not know if it is an worldwide or US-only gizmo. No item location is listed and shipping is all given  "to" the US.

What worries me about eBay is their nasty policies. Building your online store takes vision, dedication, and time, so you need to know you’re building on a solid foundation.

eBay doesn't look to have any solid foundation, but rather bad assistance, very high costs, and doesn’t provide sellers with buyer information, so there is no opportunity for sellers to develop rapport with their customers. Without this personal connection, customers typically buy based on price, and price alone.

shipping is all given  "to" the US.

70% of what I need. That's the problem as buyer and I am considering Amazon for this. But bonanza makes better opportunities as seller.

  • Give an eye, if you don't see it on Bonanza then Buy it from Amazon
  • Sell on Bonanza

That's the new plan  :D

Ah, it's another etsy/pinterest alike and the "50,000 users voted it" made me laugh, of course they did, they chose to use it over the competitor sites.

Surprises me it has as many as 50,000 users but ho hum...

Agree with that. If Google was Jupiter and Amazon was Saturn, ebay would be Neptune. Any other ecommerce platform is a rocky asteroid by comparison.

However, without any real competition, ebay's web page remains a bloated offering and the App, an insult to smart phones. The bidding process is open to abuse. Sellers are treated as a nuisance. It's a behemoth where no one seems to be in charge, or even take responsibility for leadership. Who is ebay? No idea.

I may give Bonanza a shot...

I just did. Once.

After several minutes of looking i still do not know if it is an worldwide or US-only gizmo. No item location is listed and shipping is all given  "to" the US.

So I took a quick peek.

For everything I looked at, it showed me price in GBP, and it did indicate where the items ship from (either China or USA for what I looked at).

The highest transaction count I saw for any seller was around 250, in contrast to the sometimes hundreds of thousands I see on Ebay.

For some items I tried searching for, it more-or-less admitted defeat, and offered results from "partner sites", which was really only one site, which was none other than Ebay. WTF?

Really?  Like what?

I took a quick look and anything even remotely interesting was insanely overpriced.

I think it must be displaying differently for you. It did not make any specific mention of Australia, but then it seems to be confused as to where I am (and I did not look for some way to tell it). For quite a few items worldwide shipping was mentioned. For one item it said something like "no shipping option for GB".

I'll also include an image showing it pointing me to "partner" Ebay. Goodbye Bonanza, hello Ebay?

It looks like Bonanza is all about the clicks and traffic:
"...Google charges Bonanza on a per-click basis for the traffic your products receive. We use a predictive bidding engine to absorb all upfront costs while we build your store’s credibility within Google. It’s then up to you whether to optimize for volume or profit of sales. For example, if your item costs $100 and you are paying 13% commission, we could afford to bid $0.65 per click if one out of every 20 visitors purchased an item upon visiting your store (a 5% conversion rate). If you moved to commission to 19%, we could afford to bid $0.95, assuming the conversion rate stayed the same."

Can't see it being a decent auction site when its revenue model is advertising. We all know how to search eBay so who needed google in the first place.

I'm not sure how they make money off clicks and traffic based on what you posted?

They charge a 3.5% selling fee. The rest of the fee is to cover paying Google to get more to get more eyes on your items. Theoretically they could just charge the flat 3.5% rate, but no one would find the listing.

This makes sense as its really the only way they can compete with ebay, as they know when people want to buy something they would search:
- google
- amazon
- ebay

99% of the time
Profile -> Modify profile -> Look and Layout ->  Don't show users' signatures

google has huge bias for sellers, it's who's paid them the most to get listed - hence the anti-trust lawsuits. Most results are America-only shops, so I don't use google to shop.
Amazon is contaminated with shops that are crazy overpriced i.e. $410 for a Raspberry Pi kit. I end up getting better pricing anywhere else for some reason and haven't bought from Amazon for a long time.
eBay is crazy expensive for their global shipping program, test equipment just doubles in price, it's another cash cow with Pitney Bowes.

This entire thread is likely just for clicks to Bonanza, and I don't see anything good about how the website is organized - the effort went into the advertising analytics, not the user experience. I've never seen so much chocolate for sale lol.

I took a look and wasted unrecoverable minutes of my life.

It was pretty obvious that a site that is primarily Valentine's gifts and women's fashion wasn't going to be a good source of electronics stuff.

To quote Little Britain, "Computer says no."

What is the alternative to eBay, so?

Amazon? no?
Google? no?

eBay is not a serious place to sell, does not even protect the seller, and even for the buyer the "eBay protection program" does nothing in case of scam, only Paypal really helps.

It sucks!

You have to be kidding with PayPal, surely. I avoid PayPal like the plague.

I don't exactly like Paypal but it's better than any other method I've found of sending money around online. No service is going to be great, first and foremost they all exist to make a profit.

Nope I dumped Paypal when they expected to get my bank details despite me only using them to make payments!

And how do you pay online so? Considering that a lot of shops only accept Paypal.
