Google Search Results Changing
gnuarm:
Google search results have been the same for a long time. Recently, I've seen a lot of changes. For a while, if I selected text on a page, and used the right click menu to select a Google search, it would open a new tab, next to the current tab. Now, it opens a sidebar window on the same tab, but only in Chrome. Also in Chrome, selecting text on a search results page, does not offer a search in the right click menu!
Doing a Google search now, instead of pages, provides an endless page where you never run out of scrolling. I find this much less intuitive. I would use the page count to guide me as to how far I was going through the results. Now, I find it much harder to get a feel for that.
Also, in Chrome only, the results seem to have a lot more "fluff", icons and the site name around each result. Of course, this is also on the endless page now.
It seems that Google is really good at fixing things that aren't broken. I use newsgroups to discuss a number of topics. At one time, Google Groups was an acceptable tool for that. But they kept updating it until it is barely usable.
WTF!!!???

Google is becoming just another sales and ad pusher, results of searching less and less useful.
We dumped it and use the more security and less ad infested Duckduckgo Go search engine in all our browsers.
Try it!

What planet are you from? Google has always been in the business of selling advertising. You cannot distill down the essence of what they do more than that. It is just like McDonalds is a real estate company that sells hamburgers. Google sells details they learn about you to the advertiser.
Anyone who rants about what Google does and ignores their core business as the sole motivation for any changes is not behaving rationally.

I still see the page numbers at the bottom of google search, maybe you have some chrome plugin or adware installed which is causing this.
