Great video but one thing bugs me, a lot. I have always called it G-P-I-B with each letter spoken individually and G-PIB just sounds wrong. Who's right?

Funny, I've always said it as "GP IB" - two 'words'. Like GeePee EyeBee. Slight pause, instead of just saying all 4 letters in a row.

SO now that's three ways of saying it..

HP (Agilent,Keysight) pronounce it that way.
It used to be HP-IB (with dash) so it makes sense.

Another strange way of saying something: I always say "mole-tee-me-ter" instead of "mole-ty-me-ter" as in the video.

As for GPIB, I always said "gee-pee-aye-bee"...

I found his saying it as G-pib rather annoying, too.  More so when he showed the connector on the rear of the unit clearly labeled HP-IB and still said H-pib. I've always simply rattled off the letters - GeePeeEyeBee or AychPeeEyeBee, with perhaps a hint of a pause in the middle.

"Gee-pib" can go sit in the same corner as "Sequel" (SQL).

Since it was originated by HP, they called it HP-IB. Of course, they wouldn't split their company's name to say H-PIB. Thus, when the interface was generalized and became GPIB (some instruments even labeled it GP-IB), the pronunciation only had to change to accommodate the different first letter.

So, as far as I know, the correct pronunciation is G-P-I-B. Whether or not you pause for a fraction of a second between the second and third letter probably isn't significant. It's still easily recognizable. Saying Gee-pib, on the other hand, would require a much higher cognitive load to resolve.

Pronouncing acronyms can be quite difficult, especially if you haven't heard others say them, since they often require the inclusion of invisible vowels to make them sound like words. RoHS comes to mind as an example of a weird and variously pronounced acronym.

The vintage gear was great, but as was already mentioned his pronunciation of the interface name is a total fail.

I don't dare watch that video as I get squirrelly even hearing Stefan Gotteswinter say sur-face...  ;)
