Grand jury charges 4 Audi managers in emissions case
« on: January 18, 2019, 08:49:30 am »

"The indictment says the employees realized there wasn't enough room in the vehicles to meet VW design standards for a large trunk and high-end sound system while holding a big tank for fluid to treat diesel emissions. So they and co-conspirators designed software to cheat on the emissions tests so they could get by with a smaller tank for the fluid."

I find it hard to believe that low level managers were the ones actually responsible.

A grand jury in Detroit (USA) indicts four managers in Germany.  Oh yeah, that's really going to work! NOT!  I wonder if they ever heard of a little thing called "jurisdiction"?

Hey, if VW wants to sell in the USA maybe they need to comply with the laws in the USA -- just sayin!

Indicting 4 low to mid level engineers probably satisfies the Feds as far as holding someone responsible for the emissions violations, and will allow Audi to continue selling in the US with no meaningful consequences.

No doubt, that is the way it is.  The big guys know not to put anything in writing or have there voice recorded and tend to issue instructions, verbally and with coded language, to a very small number of underlings that 'spread the word'.  I believe a guy named Cohen here in the USA knows all about that game.
