I believe the '00' is a reference for no country.

Yes, I think it's supposed to just show nothing now, I.E. no country tag at all. But it's possible the older users still have the 00 tag because it just doesn't remove it.

P.S. Why is Antarctica still allowed? I've seen several people with it (probably just being funny).

Technically there are permanent residents of Antartica and it would be useful to uniquely identify distinct them from their host countries, ban that and people will just pick some other minor country to hide behind.

Or you could take the whole 10 seconds to check and see that yes its still there and yes it still works.

I cut out the middle man and stick a small country in my profile picture.

The funny part is why I even put it there in the first place, as I have nothing outside a cursory connection to Italy, never mind San Marino. The only reason I put it as my profile picture is that i like the unique design of the flag.

Yes, I also thought that 00 was supposed to be a plain black field.
