Missing the design on Epson Printers?
« on: January 04, 2014, 09:41:15 pm »
I open this topic because of my internet search of the reason that one of my Epson printers not lit .

The printer in question is an Epson TX- 130:

( to see the features of this printer in Spanish : http://adf.ly/bWfQF )

In that search I got that , according to experts in the field , most of the time the fault was caused by a diode to the logic card (on the picture):

There are many websites on the subject , here indicated some belonging to web Yoreparo.com (in Spanish):
"Epson c92 + diagram diode faulty - Printers and Copiers "
           http://adf.ly/bWi2b
Epson TX130 card ? Logic as rrepararla damaged ? - Printers ... :
            http://adf.ly/bWkMP
Epson TX -135 does not turn - Printers and Scanners - YoReparo
            http://adf.ly/bWpje

And as those pages , there are many in both Spanish and in other languages ??by treating the same subject. But give solutions and not reach the bottom of the issue: the reason that the diode is damaged ? .
This is where I expose my theory. And it is none other than a design error .
But could the wrong card designers using this Schottky diode ? And if so , should the owners of those printers that failure to bear the repair costs ?
To the first question I have found an answer and this is possibly yes. The Schottky diode in question is the diode SK16 :

( to see the data sheet of this diode : http://adf.ly/bX7e8 )

Your fact sheet reads:

" NOT RECOMMENDED FOR NEW DESIGNS ... "
It is possible that the diode has been not been able to dissipate all the heat , mostly by its rectangular packaging . If we remember our experiences with diodes, these are usually cylindrical, and thus allows them to more quickly dissipate the heat generated . And it is for this reason that I decided to use this other diode 1N5819 :

( to see the data sheet of this diode : http://adf.ly/bXGIW )

At the time of writing these lines the printer is working without any problems , and making prints from nearly two months after repair .
The second question , regarding that Epson should recognize the error in the use of an unsuitable component is subject to the reader's opinion .

I used an Epson printer back in the late 90's, early 2000's.  It was a great printer and I finally wore it out.  I have used various other printers through the years but I am back to Epson.  I recently bought a WorkForce WF-3540.  The only annoying thing is that it assigns a 3 digit number as part of a scanned file name and there is no way to get rid of it.  Be interesting to see if my printer develops the same issue.

I have an Epson printer (stylus DX4000) been in use since 2006 and it has started to not work properly printing with lines across the page or refusing to print cyan and or yellow, tried printing the same picture using Linux instead of windows and the picture is perfect. I ran through several sets of cartridges trying to clean the jets etc under windows switched over to Linux and perfect back to Windows and the same problems.

Delete drivers and reinstall them, that should work.
