Logistics gone mad!
« on: April 03, 2014, 02:41:35 am »
I order 7 processors from e14. Aus had 5 in stock and USA had the other 2.

So I got my 5 from Aus in a small Jiffy bag, no issues there.

Then a few days later I got the 2 extra from the states, They came in this!

:wtf: This weighs half a kilo! Logistics have gone mad! I live in NZ so it's not going to be cheap.  The postage alone would have cost e14 $20+ the processors only cost me $7 each.

When I read the title my first thought was element14.

Yeah that is crazy what are they thinking. Haven't they got a pair of scissors.

My element14 experience is different, I bought a few items from them, which originated from a few different locations also some went on backorder.
Two days later after each of the 5 parcels arrived I was posted a separate invoice for that parcel, even though I paid only once for everything and paid one lot of postage.
So for about $27 I ended up with 5 different parcels and 5 letters posted to me contained the part invoices. One was less than a dollar!?

Anyway I cant complain as maybe I would have needed one of those parts in a hurry, but it does seem a bit wasteful.

how much would it have cost them to reship if the items arrived doa?
how much would it have cost them to reship if an item fell out of the box?
how much would it have cost them to reship if the packager overlooked/dropped some small component?
how much would it have cost them if you went with another supplier for your full size manufacturing order because they "couldnt even handle a prototype size order"?

how much would it have cost them to dispose of the empty tray?
how much would it have cost them in man hours to "minimize" the packaging?

It didn't stop e14 AUS from repackaging.

You would think that they have company wide processes?

We received a single 2W resistor the other day (from a B/O) and I think the invoice was about $0.50   :)
